on a PC, which is too old to change a good new graphic card.  Considering that or buying a new PC, because movies and photos are great on the new monitor, started to enjoy series, which bored me on my 24', but reading is a bid strenuous. Text, which was very sharp on the 24' appears now a bid blurry. Actually not a blurry appearance, but my eyes get strained instantly , if I read something. Adjusted best resolution and text size etc for hours. I think it's the old  AMD 760 which came with the pc some years ago. It works very fine with the old 24'.

New monitor has a max resolution of 2560x1440 (through DVI only?), but with that old pc 1920x1080 is maximal possible.

Q: what are the minimum sytsystem requirements for 2560x1440 on a new PC? In what price range? And, does it help?

Text and icons etc are always going to look blurred on a 32in monitor unless you get one with 4k resolution, and an expensive new graphics card that also has 4k resolution.

You are simply trying to get a quart out of a pint pot.

Using a digital monitor with a resolution lower than it's physical resolution will always disappoint. Picture from the PC is upscaled. That is especially true for sitting close to such huge monitors.

A sharp picture would be possible when setting up to avoid the upscaling.

But somewhat useless as then only a part of the monitor is used.

Be careful of 4k monitors as some programs won't scale up their menus (such non-current Adobe software).

I bought a 28" 4k AOC for under 14,000thb and it's superb for the money. Our friend at InvadeIT have them.

that's why I want to know for what I have to look on a new PC to get 2560x1440. In what price range? it can be? Or if it is possible to buy a better graphic card for that resolution, which my PC can handle. AMD Athlon 7550 Dual-Core 2,50 Ghz, AMD 760G 32-bit, RAM 2 GB

Yeah, was just reading a post the other day on a computer forum from a guy unhappy w/ his 32" monitor for work and even gaming. Too much real estate there. So, have dual monitors, use the 24" for work & the 32" for photos & series. Or get a media box and stream the photos & series to the new monitor.

I'm using a LG 32" TV and it's maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080. Im very pleased with the resolution, though 4K is better. Please look at your settings. Every time I install Windows I have to adapt the settings, because for some obscure reason, my icons and text is displayed at 150%, which is the cause of a blurry text.

Maybe it's the same in your case. Turn it back to 100% and it might be better.

I'm so pleased with that 32" TV,  that I'm considering replacing my 24" monitor with another 32" TV, so I have two rather big screens next to each other.

no, 100% all the time. Tried all possible settings.

The size is unbelieveable. Multitasking is fun, Excel statistics a lot easier done. Movies are nice to watch, if in good quality only. Some DVDs look great on 24, but not any more on 32. Pink Floyd Pulse, for instance, extremely crystal clear on a friends very expensive, huge home entertainment equipment, not bad on my 24, is now bad on the 32. So some Netflix movies, series are in fantastic quality.

Another new effect: all other monitors, in offices and at most other places, now seem to be very small.

How are you connectimg to the 32" monitor? Are you using the old blue analogue cables? Can you switch to using DVI or HDMI cables? If digital cables still look bad then you'll have to upgrade your video card. Thomas at InvadeIT is very helpful, so maybe contact him.

VGA, there is no other monitor port on the PC. That's why I eventuelly want to buy a new computer or a proper graphic card, if it is possible, which I don't think it is, because all components are too old for that.

Yeah, another effect, I did not have in mind before the 32. Considering buying a new, in the meantime, rather upper price PC. Which makes my worry, if text will be as blurred as now.

Old components, true. However, why don't you email Invadeit and check if they have a video card for you? Looks like this one might work, not so expensive either:

Has drivers for your OS whatever it is.

Might need to know exactly what motherboard you have.

I am quite pleased with my 27" Dell UHD (2560X1440) and are not sure a bigger monitor will be better/ideal, maybe a 30" max?

Sure the next one will be 4K or perhaps more, heard 8K will be next but okay I will not upgrade in the near future, as I said quite pleased with what I got now.

I tried a 2 monitor set-up, my old 23" Samsung & the Dell but didn't like it too much (Yes I know they should be same size). When I watched a movie I often got too distracted, e-mail coming in and I had to start the movie all over. I could imagine for work, 2 monitors would be good but not so much for general use.

I use mine for everything, watching movies, editing photos, e-mails and what else you can use a PC for (I tried gaming but never got hooked).

I saw some of the curved monitors but for me editing photos, I really can't see that working for me.

Yes the graphics card (video card) is the PC's interface for the monitors, especially hardcore gamers spend lots of money on them, but the one JSixpack suggested should be fine for your usage.

One week ago on the day I bought the 32 I brought my computer to the shop and they tried a gt730, which worked after a difficult driver uploadings. The maximum resolution was 1920x1200. The picture quality like without it. They said for 2560 x 1440 a video card for at least 6k would be needed, but the computer is too old for that.

In the meantime my eyes get used to the 32 by reducing brightness almost to 0. It is extremely bright for reading and writing.

I see. That seems odd as the max resolution for the 710 above is

DVI Connectors

Dual-link DVI-D x 1
Max Resolution: 2560 x 1600 @60 Hz

HDMI Connectors

1 (version 1.4a)
Max Resolution: 4096x2160 @24 Hz

I use a freeware utility, Desktop Lighter, to reduce the brightness of my monitor. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/Desktop-Lighter.shtml.

I think, the video card depends also on other components to get the max. My computer has only 2 GB Ram and only DDR2 and only 32 Hz. Whatever ..... thanks for your input

You really might consider a new graphics card. They are available from around 2000 baht. Look for those with 2 HDMI ports to connect them to your TV/Monitor. Unless your PC is over 8 years, the chance is that it will be fine.

Where do you live? If you live near Hua Hin, I can help you solving your problem.

thanks, I live on Samui. Read in the meantime a lot about all that resolutions, graphic cards, settings ... makes me more confused. Some say higher resolution can have worse quality, if the source can't provide that, the browser, the DVD player without upscaling, the internet provider and so and this and that ...... I think I better keep it for the moment as it is

No. You'd be better of buying a dedicated graphics card, or better still, buying a PC that shouldn't be in a museum.

Man, my Dell just broke down yesterday! The 1/3 top of the monitor is still normal but the rest have vertical stripes in all sorts of colors. It's just over 4 years old I can see from old e-mails with InvadeIT, so I doubt a repair is worth it.

I am now as an emergency using an old 36" Sony TV as monitor but for some reason, its only using the center on the tv, 1360X768 so far from ideal.

I found my 27" Dell a very good size and finding a 4K TV in 30" is difficult so I will likely get this one below (from InvadeIT), I think 4K is the way to go now and I don't want one of the super wide monitors.

@JaseTheBass  you only paid 14k for yours? 15k on invadeIT web page?

  • VGA / DVI / HDMI / DP
  • 3840 x 2160 Resolution
  • 1ms Response Time
15,000.

Yes, it's gone up in price a little on IIT, but there was a seller on Lazada who had it for around 13k the last time I looked.

I just ordered one now, cash at delivery, will be here next week, no delivery charge.

I don't know how Lazada honor warranty? I hope I will never find out.

Eyestrain could be caused due to very big display if you sit too close.

Resolution won't cause that but upscaled blurry texts could cause eye strain too.

You need to connect via DVI / Displayport to get clear text in any display. VGA port is so antique.
