Hi,

My girlfriend is going to apply for Schengen visa in 3 weeks. We are a young couple in mid 20s that is together for 3 years. She comes from a wealthy family and never had problem with with visa applications. In the past she has been given 4 Schengen tourist visa(issued in Switzerland,Italy,Austria and Czech republic) and also 3 visitors visas to New Zealand. Also she got stamps from Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. New Zealand embassy even gave her a multiple entry visa for 2 years valid until Oct 2018. You should see the smile on her face when she saw that. But thats not the point of this topic.

Now, she is trying to apply for Multiple entry schengen visa in Czech embassy in Bangkok. She is going to study English course in UK for month in July. Our plan is that we arrive in Europe on 25.6.2017 and she will stay until 3.7.2017 in my home. After that she flies to London and study for a 4 weeks. After finishing course she want to come back to Czech republic and stay with me for 1-2 weeks and then we both go back to Thailand. UK visas are sorted. The school will do it for her this week.

Also we are planning on going to Europe again for Christmas and next year also and the idea of having multiple entries sounds so good.

But I would like to ask you guys what are the chances of being granted multiple entry schengen visa in her case ?

Being that she has already had 4 Schengen tourist visa's before and has stuck to the rules, I don't see any reason why they will not grant her another Schengen visa.

Well another tourist single entry schengen visa will be probably easy to get.

But will it be same with multiple entry ?  or are they more strict.

As MH says, given her record of travel there's no reason why she shouldn't be issued for one multi entry visa that covers all her required visits, she needs to ask for multi entry and detail her proposed trips.
When my girlfriend applied for her last Schengen Visa, which was only her third, she was issued with a multi entry visa valid for six months short of the validity of her passport, so effectively two years, in her application she outlined future planned visits and asked that the visa be issued to cover these.
It's certainly worth asking.

Some embassies are more liberal than others when it comes to issueing MEV. The general rule of thumb is that both travelers to the Schengen area with a positive visa history are best given visas valid for mulitple entries and a longer expiry date (though never ever stay longer than 90 days in any 180 period in the Schengen zone!) but some member states are a bit reluctant to do so despite what EU Home Affairs may suggest. Others hand out MEV pretty much by default on the second and following applications. The other rule is that an applicant can apply for a MEV and if they do show the need (initiary etc.) for mulitple entries that this should be granted unless there is a good reason not to.

From what we have seen here in these forums the Dutch will give an MEV unless they find a reason not to, and Spain seems to give only single entries unless they see a reason to give a MEV.

Seeing as she both has a possitive (Schengen) visa history and a need for mulitple entries she should get a MEV. Simply clearly indicate this on the application form, make the need clear in an initairy and in a supporting letter. This should give her a pretty good chanche of getting a MEV. If for some reason they do not approve of a MEV she will simply get a single (or two) entry visa. To this she could protest just as with a visa refusal, on the basis that she was given an other visa than requested and for no justified reason.

Ok thanks for answers guys.

Its almost 100% clear for me. Just one more question. Basically she should write in her supporting letter that she is planning to go Europe in future right (for christmas and next year) ? ... Does she have to show flight ticket also for the future trips? or just mentioning it in letter is fine.

She would not have to show her tickets for subsequent planned travel, she should just outline her future plans, she might strike lucky.

Schengen embassies (as per EU Schengen policy) advice to never buy a ticket untill the visa is granted. A reservation for the first trip is fine.

You could include a reservation for additional flights if you can obtain one for free or include a printscreen of the additional planned flights as an indicator. But if you don't include them that should be okay if your cover letter explains that you will book those additions flights later.

Word of caution, the Czech embassy does not seem to issue MEV in large numbers though so you may wish to make the need for one very clear incase they are somewhat conservative/restrictive.

Last year they got 6.591applications, issued 6.555. 70 of which were MEV. That's a radio of 1,1% MEVs. Overall they refused 33 visas (any type) which is a 0,5% ratio.

Yeah, I also found out they doesn't issue MEV that much.

My girlfriend wrote in supporting letter that she is planning on going back to Europe in December and in May. We didn't wrote specific dates for December and May but we got a flight itinerary (with exact days) for December. She tried also get one for May but its too early airline said. Probably she will highlight (with yellow highlighter) the important dates in  her supporting letter for them also.

Me and my father wrote invitation letter for her. In the letter we ask them to issue her a multiple entry visa. So I hope we made it pretty clear that she wants  MEV.

We are going to apply for MEV on Monday. My girlfriend is stressed that maybe she will not get MEV and just wanna make sure.

What would happen if they decide not to give her a MEV ? Do they give her visa for the period that she is going to stay or she have to apply again ?

There's no need to get stressed, says he sitting at a keyboard totally unaffected, all she can do is ask and outline her plans and hope for the best.

I just dug out my wife's old passport and had a look at her first Schengen Visa, which was for a weekend in Paris when we were visiting the UK in 2009, she was then my girlfriend, she was issued with multi entry visa with a validity of 31 days.

It's in their interest to give her a longer term visa with an extended validity, as it cuts down on the processing, but if they only give her one for this visit, then yes she will need to go through it all again.

All my wife's Schengen Visas have been multi entry.

Assuming that there is nothing to doubt that she is a genuine traveler:: if she does not get the MEV she will get a visa with 1entry  (or 2, but those seem rare) .
