Recommended Posts

As a result of what has happened to a recent provider and as one who was " burnt" I am looking for a recommendation for a similar provider ( legal) if it exists

I only want U.K. TV programs not interested in sport or movies

As not very technically minded something simple please

Due to the issues with ThaiExpatTV we are restricting discussion of these services, please see this thread:-

It's worth looking through the locked threads for alternatives.

I'm using Ivacy VPN to access the BBC, ITV etc.

At <USD50 for two years it's pretty good value.

https://www.ivacy.com/

I have been using Browsec via a chrome extension successfully for a long time to access the BBC etc. OK this morning but when I tried just now I got a 'can only watch in the UK due to copywrite' message on screen. Tried other Chrome VPN extensions with the same result so they're obviously flagging up and blocking the UK ISP addresses these VPN's use now.

How long before they track down others we are using?

Ivacy and StrongVPN have UK servers with dynamic IP addresses, even so I get an occasional "only in the UK" message.

In reality I suspect (hope) it will be some considerable time before every IP available to a VPN service is blocked.

Top right of the page is a little envelope symbol, it should have a Red number 1 on it. Click the envelope.

In between the bell and the exclamation mark.

Not sure if this is supposed to be a helpful user guidance   ...or a hint for a Thai-style bribe

Install Kodi free from Google Playstore or directly from their web site. Then install FTFA addon (FreeforallTV) to watch almost anything free. It's not Thai server based so need decent 590THB/m broadband VDSL or similar. Kodi also has a BBC iPlayer for catch up stuff. No VPN or any cost besides ISP monthly fee.

At present the FTFA addon is not on the Kodi blacklist of illegal addons.

To install it on Kodi see here.

@Crossy perhaps you could check the legality of this?

Team Kodi does not currently have any problem with it but I'm not sure where we stand wrt Thai law.

Before we get started, keep in mind that this addon is not part of the official Kodi repository. It is supported by the FTFA team. If you need help, please do not go to the Kodi website and ask any questions.

It doesn't offer the EPL channels (that I can see) IMHO it's ok by our current rules.

BT Sports is there on this FTFA addon so some EPL will be available.

Incidentally, I've never used Kodi before but, under the present circumstances, decided to install it on my laptop to see what options for UK TV we might have.

Now I also have a second monitor connected to my laptop to enable me to look at two things/pages etc at the same time. But as soon as I open up Kodi my second monitor is blanked out and only returns when I shut Kodi down.

Does anybody here use two monitors and have Kodi installed and have similar problems?

I'm using Kodi 16.1 on a machine with 3 monitors and another (this one) with 2. I don't see that blanking issues.

As to the EPL, we are trying to reach a happy medium without totally banning these topics. The occasional EPL game is going to find its way through on the non-specialist channels.

I've installed Kodi 17 Krypton for the first time so, as you don't have a problem, I've just just searched through all the different settings available and, in one, found one switchable option to 'blank all other displays' that was switched on by default. Switching it off cured the problem.

Haven't come across a program that has this as a switchable option like this before. Thanks.

Actually, thanks to you for finding the option :)

All the sports channels are there. From Sky sports to BT Sports, Astro, Sentana, you just name the sports channel and it's there.

It even has a sub section called Live sports that has all the individual games listed, so if this addon isn't about watching EPL, then I've never seen one before.

Indeed, but what it does NOT have are the EPL channels which certain services do/did.

We have to draw a line somewhere. We really, really don't want to place a blanket ban on these discussions.

What is an EPL channel ? Sorry I'm not really football minded, so I have no idea what that is, I would even have a hard time to figure out which are EPL games and which not.

EPL is the English Premier League and is at the root of what this is all about. The premier league - fairly understandably want to protect their very lucrative TV deals a round the world including here in Thailand. True Visions, as the rights holder here in Thailand no doubt encouraged the junta to act on illegal streaming. What is annoying is that all the UK channels like BBC2 and Channel 4 have disappeared with them as they seem to have operated by the same people.

What difference does that make? In your Kodi for Dummies thread you show how to add the Ares addon which is in the Kodi blacklist?

Surely just discussing the addons cannot be wrong can it?

Confused.

I thought I had it covered by adding the disclaimer to the Dummies thread, but the main reason for recommending and using the Ares Wizard is because it provides a backup/restore function which vanilla Kodi does not do.
