Sooo Merry Xmas my Dear Friend's

Here is first ever pictures of me in the Antarctica & Falkland Islands, i can assure you it's darn cold and windy here, pic of my not so nice face is when im facing winds about 70-85km\h strait to my face on the deck 12 middle of the Drake Passage, we have had some ice already and 2days ago one iceberg fell of from the main land, diameter of 23km wide and 16km in lenght....

Red "monkey" suite is survival suite what evey one must wear while working in the water, i.e Landing grafts or assisting our passangers, remember in Antarctic water temperature is constant +1c or just below....survival time for people with out suite in the water is abt 5minutes......

Picture with land on is Port Stanley in Falkland island just outside coast of Argentina, belong to UK,, you do remeber the Falkland war,,, yes it was here also,,, nice little town with 2000people and 300.000 sheeps, i wonder what they are doing in long winter nights.....

any how all the best and enjoy.. i will post bit more when we are surrounded by ICE and Pinguin's, mean while, enjoy the warm of Thailand and dont complane that it's cold there....

Good luck out there...Looks like fun. I'm a ferry boat captain now, but your post reminds me of days gone by...sailing with the N.M.U.

Keep safe and keep warm.

Enjoy down there. We lived in Tierra Del Fuego, Argentine side, Rio Grande back in 97/98. We really liked it despite the cold and the wind, well the Thai wife did not have so much fun ( lack of Son Tam?) but did enjoy travelling through Patagonia. Did not managed to get to the Drake passage though, quite a miss but still considering.

Best of luck.

Hi Francis

yeah life here is harsh and hostile time to time,, one must wonder sometimes how some one 1.want to live here 2.survive here, it's cold and cold again,, and i was born in FINLAND.....

we are based for next month until end of January in Ushuaia and going to places like Elephant Island,Deception Island,Paradise Harbour, Lemaire CHennel,Port Lockroy, Half Moon Island and Cape Horn.

Lots of intresting places and im sure tons of fantastic pictures...

for Cruise ship here for crew and for my self it's tons of work, as for my self im incharge of passenger & Crew Safety and training for this, so it's hard work for getting all Filipinos to get use to this kind of weather.

but have to say as Marco Polo has done Antarctica cruises for 20+yrs, many of our crew has gott use to this already.

but let's see what this seasson will bring to us...

til next time

Oh how I sometimes miss the burn of sideways snow and freezing salt water spray blowing 100kph on my face along with the chop of a rough cold sea below my keel.

Be safe my friend and don't get in the mind set that you should test that survival suit of yours so you can impress the crew with your macho abilities as it does not look up to the task. I have spent a few minutes floating amongst the ice and frigid water myself and that "springtime" suit you have on would not have been on my list.

Get some pictures of penguins if the chance presents itself.

Cheers.

Hello Every one and Now Finally I made my first landing's to Continent of Antarctica(i know it's not official continent, but ppl here say so the it is)

Few funny pictures from there and it cold day +7C, snowfalling and sea temperature +0.7C,

Paradice harbour was todays place and it's manned by Chile since 1951.

in the picture you can see funny trafic sign,, but it makes me wonder, if the Pinguins in the Antarctica can read,, i mean they been together with humans since 1951,, so maybe they do....look at the Yellow sign...

Enjoy

Marco,

Looks like the people can't read it since they are beyond the sign and beyond the ropes. :o

Don't sit around posing on the ice for too long you'll get piles mate even in the Antarctic the penguins have haemorrhoids. Have a good new year!

Cheers.
