Farangs in Thailand only die from suicide or other bad luck , there won't be any toxicology reports here

If the hammock hung a little higher they would have called it suicide as well.

Sounds suspicious that the wife has a reason for the death.  If you don't know then you don't know, period.  This is common everywhere, people rationalizing to cover their deeds when they have something to hide.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but is there mention of the strength of the paracetamol tablets?

Just so happened I had surgery last week, so in recent days I've been giving a lot of attention to pain killer dosages etc.  The daily maximum for paracetamol (aka Tylenol) according to my doctor is 3,000 mg.  But not all at once.

Yeah but even if you take the most massive overdose, it kills you days or weeks later - not minutes later!

Honestly, I would put money on it being nothing at all to do with the Paracetamol - the fact that he took them a few minutes before he died is just a coincidence unless he choked on them. It sounds much more like a heart attack or something of that sort

The lady is speaking in grief. 5 paracetamol is not going to kill anyone, nor will it even take the edge off a stroke related headache. Far too young to go...but, at the end of the day, better than many other ways.

What a load of dross.

There are many older farangs in Thailand who have lived a long and happy life and they simply die , usually of an age related disease.

Perhaps the only ones that you know of are the ones that come up on Thai VIsa. The majority of posters to those threads have never known the deceased, have no idea of their lifestyles, families etc or anything about them but boldly make rubbish statements like yours.

It doesn't sound suspicious at all to me.

After all his wife was far closer and had a better knowledge of him than anybody on TVF

My wife and son know how many medicines I take a day and for what reason.

Paracetamol overdose is not quick. Liver failure. Slow and painful. May take weeks. Five 500mg (2.5g) wouldn't do it. If you want to commit suicide very slowly and painfully then take 10 or more. 20 should do it.

Love to know how a Farlang managed to own 15 rai of land and become a cattle farmer in Thailand, but that`s another story.

An overdose of paracetamol actually destroys and causes kidney failure, which was probably the cause of death.

Are you trying to say that Farangs don't die in suspicious circumstances in Thailand and Thai police investigate crimes properly?

Not  sure if  serious... :stoner:

Is it possible to prevent sudden attacks like this by doing regular check-ups at the hospital? Or is it just a waste of money ?   If he felt he was in good shape, and no warnings you start wondering, I am in the same age group myself.

Yearly check-ups help ,or even every 2 years .They pick up the obvious dangers .It will do nothing though to stop you dying on a road related incident .

Yes, a couple of friends of mine have had life endangering conditions, of which they were completely unaware, diagnosed and treated in time as a result of annual check-ups. Likewise, it is with and annual health checkup that I was diagnosed with diabetes, so yes, it probably is worthwhile. In many countries, your family doctor will give you an ear-bashing if you don't have one done regularly (Luxembourg, where I used to live, is one such country)

do they know what a toxicology report is in this country?? It is a big word for them

More like some alcohol mixed with the juice

Don't show your ignorance by talking about something that you have no idea or knowledge about.

Why? That's what para is for; minor pain relief. The only time I take it is for a headache, or sometimes to relieve cold symtoms. But the adult dose is 2 not 5. There are many causes of headache which are not at all serious: Over tiredness, sleep deprivation, too much sun, heatstroke, food poisoning, hangover, cold or flu etc. Maybe taking 5 is an indication of taking them habitually, which is dangerous, or the severity of the pain. If the latter is what you mean then OK, you are probably right.

The fact that he collapsed so soon after taking them, i.e., before they had any effect, probably means it had nothing to do with the para at all.

Maybe his wife emphasised the para as Thais generally I suspect, may regard paracetemol as dangerous. My Thai lady thinks this and said a doctor told her so. If she has a headache she will ask me for 400mg ibuprofen, which I take when I have serious back pain, instead of taking para despite my explaining that ibuprofen is potentially more dangerous for the liver and can cause stomach ulcers if not taken with food, and that para is a healthier alternative and only dangerous if taken habitually or taken in overdose.

Why do Thais seem to get so many things 'arse about face', i.e., The wrong way around?

Because they listen to too many people, change like the wind.

I would suspect that if the guy had something serious going on between his ears that only a brain scan would have sussed it......

A bit young, but I agree with your sentiments. When I go I hope it's this way - quick. Regarding the wife - just hope his affairs were in order,  with a will made, etc.. That's one potential disadvantage of a quick, unexpected death.

Five paracetamol is a bit much but isn't enough to cause death by overdose, so probably some kind of heart problem. Wonder if taking aspirin, as opposed to paracetamol, might've made a difference; I actually carry aspirin on me for just this sort of eventuality.

Also, probably didn't know he had a problem, relatively younger older guys (40s/50s) can tend to ignore health till there's some obvious symptom. I only found out about high BP in my 50s when I had some some dental work done.

I agree, aspirin is a good emergency item.  But, just try and find aspirin in Thailand. Very hard, if not impossible to find....

You can buy Aspirin here, the brand name is Aspilets. Part of the Antiplatelet family of drugs. Sometimes called blood thinners, but they do not really do that, more of an anti blood clotting drug. I buy them at the local pharmacy and take one 81mg tablet every day. Have done for the last 11 years, the UK cardiologist I went to recommended that I start taking them.

Melioidosis? Thailand's third most deadly infectious disease. More easily transmitted when it rains.

Article seems to imply he spent a lot of time on the land (bacteria in water and soil). A sniff of the bacteria can kill you pretty quickly. Big in North-East Thai and Northern Australia.

Just something else to look out for lol

It is hard to duck when you cannot see it. The lol was more just to add another risk to the list of things to worry about...a specialist from Mahidol University has said you should stay indoors or wear masks if ever you are out in a storm. Obviously cover up cuts too. One of those things that doesn't get spoken about much surprisingly. Maybe so people dont get scared.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melioidosis

Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by a Gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia pseudomallei, found in soil and water. It is of public health importance in endemic areas, particularly in Vietnam and northern Australia. It exists in acute and chronic forms. Signs and symptoms may include pain in chest, bones, or joints; cough; skin infections, lung nodules, and pneumonia.

I have lived out in rural Khampaeng Phet where we have 15 rai of hilly farming land since 2004 and, touch wood , I have never heard of it or know of anybody who ever caught it. Yes I cover up cuts and grazes but even when I have been caught out in a storm I have never worn a mask.

If I were to worry over everything that causes a risk I would have gone to bed many years ago and stayed there fearing any risk to my health and safety. I am 73 and I have had a great life but I know that I am going to die someday. Until that day comes I will enjoy myself doing the things that I want to do, because sure as sh1t I won't be able to do them when I am dead.

I'm sure if he had contacted the TV CSI team here, they could have made a better diagnosis before a brain scan.

Would you like to buy a tinfoil hat?

Why do YOU in particular think it is suspicious?
