I saw Bein sports advertising they are the only channel showing the World Cup and free if subscribe before 7th May.
Am I misunderstanding something?

Just googled the ad. Looks like it is advertising the Qatar based beIN channels (comments on the page seem to be Arabic?)  The Junta have already confirmed it is Free to Air on Thai channels as mentioned in the other posts, You don't need to subscribe separately over here.  It may well be part of their Truevisions deal anyway but as TV are promoting their own Ultra HD channel, I can't confirm that as yet.

Hi. Does anyone know how True intend to distribute the 4K signal for the World Cup?

Whilst I’m no expert, I assume that the current receivers for both cable and satellite cannot handle 4K resolution.

It takes about 17-25 MB bandwidth to broadcast Sport in 4K so where is that bandwidth coming from?

If they are going to rely on the current fiber network that’s going to be almost impossible as so many people will be streaming the World Cup at the same time and most Internet providers have to throttle their service during peak times to cope with all the streaming. Saturday night for example.

I know the hdmi cables don’t need to be changed but the only current 4K receivers I know of in Thailand are Apple TV and Chromecast Ultra and they both work on normal networks which will surely crash.

Fibre Optic Network (they are confident it will cope!) and possibly via satelite using Thaicom but TiT so I won't be getting a 4K TV for it!

As a True Visions subscriber you should have access to all the free channels it will be shown on?

 

In my experience there is the English commentary option on these channels.

Yes, there is English commentary options for football shown on Thai channels on True Visions, for example the FA Cup on CH7 has English an option as does Championship games on MCOT Family, but in past for world cups and Euro's there has never been an English commentary option and I don't expect that to change for this tournament.

Those channels are referred to as Fox Sports HD/2/3...don't really know anyone that calls then 'Fox Asia' Are you American?

 

Anyway, looked into this a little and as usual these things are all a bit vague and I have read about a streaming service and match passes. Fox have paid a fortune for it so I would be amazed if all, or any, world cup games are going to be shown on these channels with no additional bills or subscriptons to pay.

AIS bid for the TV rights and lost because of the clash of interests with another phone operator ( True I presume) so I’d be very surprised if True don’t show it.
My guess will be that Amarin, True 4U and Ch5 will show a “free to air” version, with loads of on screen adverts and adverts during the game. Advert free games will be shown on True to subscribers to Gold or Platinum and they will try to launch their 4K service.
I have done a bit of research and it is possible to show 4K on the boxes True already give to cable subscribers but not to satellite subscribers who would need a new box.
Anyway, just guessing.

Absolutely speculating. They have yet to give details. Of course the games will be on Amarin and 5 which are in those packages.
