Being a citizen or legal resident of the country where you apply for a METV is one of the requirements to get it at the majority of locations. The only exceptions I am aware of are Australia, The US and Canada.

At one time a couple of years ago you could apply for a double entry or even triple entry tourist visa.

The METV was supposed to replace them.

In fact it made it impossible to get more than a single entry most places in the world, including  Southeast Asia.

A real step backward in my humble opinion.

But obviously Thai immigration doesn't  care about my opinions.

Just a matter of interest: Do the bank statements over the last 6 months of a "time deposit" meet the requirement of applying METV?  Or the required money must be kept in a savings account instead?

It would be accepted.
