Tile hole for mixer tap on PPR outlets

I always assumed that the female threaded socket which the tap connects to should be flush with the finished surface of the tile, so the hole in the tile needs to be at least the same diameter as the socket.

But PPR sockets have a 38mm diameter. Once you've fixed the dog-leg connectors from the tap, by my calcs the covering plate with a 60mm diameter will leave 2mm of the hole (or filler) visible.

I was thinking perhaps I could trim off 2mm from around the PPR sockets (or perhaps a mm or so more to be sure).

Or use straight connectors instead of the dog-legs (my spacing between the hot and cold outlets are spot-on).

Is there a better solution to this ? Is my assumption wrong ?

Thanks.
