jphripjah Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Hello- A friend of mine from Australia recently got married in Bangkok to a Thai woman. I was invited to the wedding but could not attend. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant or store from which I could but them a gift card of 5,000 baht or so? Is there a customer service desk at EmQuartier, could I just get them a gift card there, or does anyone have better recommendations? A spa? I'm flying to Bangkok next week and will probably meet up with the guy at a bar and don't want to carry an actual gift. I know it is customary for people to give cash wedding gifts in Thailand but I'd rather not do that, just a cultural difference. Thanks.
Spaniel Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I don't know about EmQuartier but you probably can. If not I know you can get a gift card/vouchers at Central Chidlom.
bbi1 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Just give the dude 5,000 baht cash, way easier for everyone involved then he has a chance to blow it on whatever he chooses instead of getting yet another crappy gift he doesn't want or need.
DeeMak9 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 People give cash on weddings in Thailand. They will be most happy with that.
1FinickyOne Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Cash in an envelope will take care of whatever he wants...
jphripjah Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 I don't want to give him cash. I believe that giving a friend cash as a gift is crass. He's not Thai, I didn't attend the wedding.
WaywardWind Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Centara Hotels have gift certificates in various denominations. Can be used at any of their resorts, so might be nice for a weekend away with his new bride.
