The annual Phi Ta Khon ghost mask festival kicked off at the Wat Pone Chai in Loei’s Dan Sai district on Saturday morning.

Permanent Secretary for Culture Ministry Kitsayapong Siri chaired a ceremony to begin the festival at 10am. It was attended by Loei Governor Khumpol Banthaothuk and many tourists.

The parade of ghost masks this year was joined by ghost mask dancers from India, Indonesia, South Korea, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.

The festival will continue until Monday. The parade on Sunday will be joined by some 1,000 people wearing ghost masks.
