KRABI: -- Tourists hav complained that the popular Hat Noppharat Thara Beach in Krabi has become an eyesore due to litter.

On Tuesday, the beach, located in tambon Ao Nang in Muang district, was covered with plastic bags while food had been left under trees where tourists eat on mats.

Old mats and garbage bags were also left under trees.

Phankham Kittithorakul, mayor of the Ao Nang Administrative Organisation, said the organisation has hired a private firm to collect garbage at the beach.

The firm’s workers will collect the garbage at about 9pm every night, he said, adding that garbage is always left by tourists.

He said his TAO has campaigned for tourists to leave their leftover foods and garbage in black bags for workers to collect.

Daily early morning clean up from National Park Rangers, daily afternoon clean up by local Government. Private company collect all the trash bags every evening and put new bags around trees. Big signs in Thai, English and Chinese: Do Not Litter, fine 2.000 Thb everywhere. National Park put many garbage bins in place, 3 at one spot, with pictures and text for recycling.

But in the weekend, No ranger, no Government or private company. Every Monday it is a mess. Garbage bags still empty, garbage bins partly used and the trash everywhere.

Time for enforcing the rule of Do not litter. Fine a few days everybody that leave something behind and people will start learning the hard way. Unfortunately it is not only the Thai tourist.

At Hat Noppharat it's 99% Thai tourists.

Thailand is one big rubbish tip  Its not only the beaches Look at the road sides and cities garbage everywhere Thais cant even clean up there plates  after they have eaten so how do you expect them to put rubbish in a bin. We have a rubbish site at our soi  I would say about 15 blue bins where the villagers are suppose to come and put there rubbish in the bins Oh they come alright but they are so dam lazy to get out of there cars that they throw the rubbish bags beside the bins from there cars Just a mess

would it really be too much to put in some bins or a dumster? blaming thai or foreign tourist does not make any difference. just put somewhere to put the trash to be collected before being removed.

They can put as many bins and dumpsters in place but the Thais are so lazy they throw them beside the bins

I went today to see how it is like. a Group of 20 Thai people all in light green T-shirts walked down the beach and picknick area to clean up. Full garbage bags on the road side and emty ones tight to the trees. I counted 10 garbage bin recycle point in one view, did not walk to the end to see if there are more. 2 ladys from National Park are cleaning all day every day. The biggest picknick sport looks clean to me.
