2007 Isuzu Mu-7 Primo

Recommended Posts

I am contemplating purchasing a 2007 Isuzu Mu-7 Primo (2wd) with automatic transmission & the single color only (sterling silver). I would like to get an idea on what I will have to pay, provided I am able to negotiate a discount of some type. Do they even give discounts off the sticker price of new vehicles in Thailand?

What accessories will I be able to have included (negotiated) into the actual purchase price of the vehicle? Should I push for as many as possible? What accessories do you recommend I push for when negotiating the price?

Do you recommend leather seats in this hot & humid climate or fabric?

Would I be better off to purchase Isuzu's first class insurance or buy through an insurance company?

Any help or comments are appreciated.

sorry for not answering your question, but a counter-question:

what makes you get the primo over a cr-v or a fortuner?

I gather that you clearly made up your mind - would be interested to get your insights.

danone,

Actually, I am still very open-minded at this point and I will be looking at the Fortuner, CR-V & maybe even the four-door pick-up trucks as well. I should have stated that in my post.

I only need a two-wheel drive.

Your insights are welcome.

If I were to only get a 2wd, as far as bang for your buck is concerned, the new Mitsu Triton Plus can't be beat. I think they are under 700K brand spankin'.

Japhrodisiac,

Thanks, I haven't checked out the Triton Plus yet, but I'll definitely have a look at it soon.

MU-7 and Fortuner are seven seaters, CRV is a five seater, but they are all SUVs of sorts. Triton Plus is a pickup truck.

I wonder why people buy Mu-7 knowing that they are still build on a five year old platform with little engine tweaks here and there while all its competitors are brand new generation of vehicles.

I always advise people to buy exactly what they like and not to bother which brand it is. All the pickup trucks built here in Thailand are nearly bullet proof. I prefer the Ford and Nissan because they still look like trucks. Others prefer the fad looks and glitzy trims. Fancy styles or truck looking, they are all tough dependable vehicles.

Can anyone tell me which would be the best choice between DMax Highlander 2.5 l 4 doors, and the Triton Plus 2.5 l 4 doors......I am concerned in comfort (as far as a PU Truck can be comfortable ;-) , and fuel consumption

Thanks

My Nissan Frontier is boring too but she is a GOOD one and I love her. My new Ford Focus is flashy and I don't know if it is any good yet. It is certainly NOT a love affair at this point. Time will tell. If I had to choose between the pickup and the car just to keep and drive, I'd pick the truck even though it is worth less than half as much.

There's nothing wrong with boring. I'm boring too but so far my wife has kept me.

It's interesting how different people view different vehicles. Before today I had not really looked at the MU 7 Isuzu. Today I was at a car wash and there was an Isuzu MU 7 ahead of me. I had a good look at it and to say it is boring is to also say the CR V and Fortuner are also boring. I thought it was at least as attractive as the Fortuner and maybe as attractive as the CR V. Maybe I am of the opinion that all SUV's look pretty much the same. What can a manufacturer do to change the looks of a box on wheels?

I don't want to argue about looks as they are personal choices. The engineering is objective, however, and MU7 is outdated comparing to Fortuner or CRV. Does the new Everest have new engine and five speed auto, btw? I understand it's also only a cosmetic change on the old generation platform, just like MU 7.

Maybe later this year we'll get SUV based on Triton.

BUT, even if the difference is there, and it's confirmed both by motoring critics and the buying public, it's not that big as Gary noted - all Thai pickups are bullet proof.

Stay away from the Everest. The Ford, not the mountain. You have been warned.

I would definitely test-drive any new car. Fortuner has way better suspension than MU7 so take it over a few bumps and see if its acceptable. Triton is supposed to have good suspension too.

A friend has the 2.5 Triton - it gets very impressive gas mileage. 6l/100km over the mountains! It's a great truck.

I have a Fortuner which is simply excellent in everything - but it gets only 9.1km/l, just over 11l/100k. It's 4WD which the OP doesn't need, and they don't make 2WD versions. And it's much more expensive, I think 2x the Triton 2.5.

For 2WD pick-ups, Vigo or Triton for sure. For SUV type cars... the new CRV looks very nice but is expensive and tiny. Everest is a disaster. And I believe the MU7 has a coil leaf rear suspension (pick-up style) which will bounce your rear passengers around the cabin, even on small bumps. Ford Escape is pretty nice - small but good package.

Which version of the Triton does your friend have, and, - automatic or manual transmission ?

Having tested and driven the Isuzu MU7 and the Fortuner I would and did opt to purchase the Toyota. My reasons were simple, the quality of the ride and road behaviour.

The Fortuner has far better cornering ability which even when pushed in the wet and the rear suspension gives it the better ride to compare with the MU7 cart springs.

If you do purchase a vehicle try and do it in your own name as a company registerd vehicle pays double the tax and get a Thai driving licence then there is no arguments with the insurance.

You should get free insurance and window tints and carpet covers. I also bought 18 inch wheels, big tyres and a kenwood dvd based system through my dealer at discount price.

Good luck

gjones,

Thanks for your first hand information.

I test drove the Mu -7 today & found the handling characteristics to be satisfactory, but by no means perfect.

I will test drive the Fortuner soon to make a comparison between the two.

One thing I have found over the years are that no one vehicle will ever be perfect. I try to find a certain balance & take it from there.

The last vehicle that I owned in the U.S. was a Toyota; I drove that vehicle for 16 years before selling it and moving to Thailand. It was an excellent vehicle.

I would be registering the vehicle in my name and I did go & get a Thai drivers license for the reason that you have mentioned in your post.

Thanks.
