Man arrested with 140,000 meth pills in Mukdahan
By The Nation

A Si Sa Ket man was arrested in Mukdahan on Tuesday night for allegedly trying to smuggle 140,000 methamphetamine pills into the kingdom.

Three other suspects managed to flee in two vans. However, a female teenage motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash as the suspects were being pursued by authorities.

Acting on a tips-off, a joint unit of troops, police, border patrol police and Interior Ministry officials checked near the Mekong bank in Ban Tan Mai village in Mukdahan’s Dontan district at 8.30pm. They found a bag that contained the drug.

Later they saw two vans driving around twice before they stopped and a man got out of the vehicle to search the area.

When he did not find the bag the two vans suddenly drove off. In the pursuit that followed one of the vans hit a teenage motorcyclist, so authorities had to abandon the chase to take the girl to Dontan hospital.

Officials arrested a man, identified as Preecha Singsok, 29, from Si Sa Ke.

Preecha told authorities that he and three other accomplices were in two vans.

He said his gang crossed the river to buy the drug in Laos that was later smuggled across the river for them to pick up.
