TOT Fiber

Featured Replies

I have a TOT 100/20 fiber package.  I use it exclusively via wifi.  Using the TOT multithread speedtest I have been getting anything from 20-50mbps download, Using a the single thread Testmynet to London the results hover around 7-8mbps.  Although not as good as I would like it has been good enough to stream most things I need including live sport with only minimal buffering.  Recently the buffering has increased to such an extent that some streams become unwatchable.  Over the last week although my TOT test numbers have remained the same I have seen the single test results reduce to 3-5mbps.   Has anyone else experienced similar?  Is it likely that TOT are following True and starting to throttle international access.

As an aside I recently decided to test my speed using a LAN/ethernet connection.  The TOT test actually gave very close to the advertised 100/20, but the single thread speed was the same as the wifi numbers???

You should avoid WIFI for live streaming, because regardless how good your signal is you will always lose speed compared to a LAN connection.

Also when you lose 1 packet, which happens over a wireless connection, you lose connection which will cause the buffer.

If you have the 100 Mb download speed, try a decent vpn connected to Singapore server, then test your speed to UK again with testmy.net.

I appreciate that wifi is not ideal but until recently it has been good enough,  I was just wondering if TOT are starting to target international streams.  I always assumed at some point they would and maybe this is it.  What would you recommend as a decent inexpensive VPN?

They probably don't throttle international connections, but rather downloading and streaming. With testmy.net you download a file.

You can try VPNUnlimited, you can get a 6 day trial with it, and it works well with Singapore servers.

Works also on all operating systems.

If it satisfy you can send me a PM and I can get you a decent deal.

Will do.  Appreciated your help and advice.

What router are you using? If you are using older N router your speed are limited to max 72mbps per antenna.

It's a new zhone router.  TOT installed it about 6 months ago when they upgraded to fiber.  Sorry no idea what specs.
