Shipping household things to Europe

Featured Replies

Was asked a question last night, so thought someone on here would probably know the answer. If you wanted to ship 6 suitcases and 6 boxes Approx size of a large suitcase, of houshold family goods to Europe by sea.. Does anyone know if it's priced on weight, size or what and who would you use DHL, fourwinds? It's not a container full, only probably 1/8th. I've no idea how much it would cost or who does it.

Which country , may be it free freight

If you ship by boat they charge by the size. There is a shipping business called world wide cargo on sukhumvit down south a bit.

I have not used them so I do not know if they are any good or not.

I guess it'll cost you around 18-20k to:

- have it packed and labelled

- have documents made

- transported to the nearest harbor

- have it cleared by customs

- have it transported to the nearest port of the final destination.

BEWARE: The customs in the destination-country may charge quite a bit, even it's used household goods and personal items.

Make an exact description of what's in the boxes/cases if necessary accompanied with pictures.

If the customs aren't sure about contents they'll start to estimate values.

Just as an example: Friends of mine had to pay 18k in Thailand for the shipping into the harbor in Spain and there they charged them another 40k for clearance and transport to their home address.

Maybe it's good to contact the customs in the destination country and ask them about restrictions, paperwork and requirements.

This is NOT something that is being done by the shipper in Thailand; they only take care that your stuff gets in a harbor and from there it's your problem again.
