Just looking at some files on my phone and an old zip file at 1.4 gigs still sitting on the phone.  I would think that this file had to be unpacked for the update and is no longer needed.  

 

Do I need this file or can I delete it?

As it should only work to update the previous version of the OS, that no longer exists on the device, I'd say delete it.
