Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this post was better served in another forum (new here). I recently accepted a teaching position at a private language school branch in Nonthaburi (well, I think it would be considered Nonthaburi. It's slightly east of Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road and near the School Science High School) and I'll be moving to Bangkok about nine days from now. Ideally, I would like to live east of the Chao Phraya and be closer to my closest MRT/BTS stop which happens to be MRT Yaek Tiwanon. That also seems like it would mean a daily 5k to 6k commute which would involve crossing the Chao Phraya twice daily. Does that sound impossibly crazy? I'm well versed in getting around Sukhumvit and Silom, but Nonthaburi will be completely new to me and not being there is making it difficult to get a sense of what this commute might be like. Alternatively if I choose to live closer to my school West of Chao Phraya in Nonthaburi, how painful will be to get back to the more well known nightlife and shopping areas on Sukhumvit? I feel a bit out of my depth at the moment.

Additionally, if anyone has a lead on a really nice apartment near MRT Yaek Tiwanon, or West of the Chao Phraya near to my school it would be much appreciated. My monthly budget is going be in the 8500THB-11000THB range depending on a few factors...

Cheers,

Shawn

I live in the Brang Kruai Sai Noi Area, its hard to go into town (soon easier as the MRT will be connected from 14 august). However if going out drinking is your plan then you can't rely on the MRT as it stops too early.

Taxi's go for around 300bt from the night life. Shopping is actually good in the Nothaburi area you mention as there is a huge Central... called central westgate (MRT connects there), they are building an IKEA right next to it.

For more info on the purple line just google it.

Personally I would just move to Nothaburi or find an other school. You can slash transport costs and transport time and save the money to spend it later for when you want to go out drinking at the night life (unless you want to do that often)

*edit*

Sorry.. your closest MRT is already on the purple line.. so you could use that all the time.  Maybe take a motorbike taxi the last bit or something like that.

Alternatively if your not affraid to ride a motorbike.. its quite easy to drive in that area.. especially as your going the against the traffic flow (in the morning people go into BKK.. you will be going out)
