Selling my car - address on Blue book

Featured Replies

I shall shortly be selling my car.

Unfortunately I have moved in the last year and not changed the address on the blue book

The car is fully mine - in my name with no finance or encumbrances.

So my question is - do I need to update the address on my blue book before making a sale

(i'd like to sell the car to a private buyer)

Did you move to a new province ?

if the DLT in the province requires a "certificate of residence" from a ( foreigner ) to sell the car then you may

run into some problems...or not depending on..the moon, planet alignment and officials bad hair day.

Generally leave it up to the new buyer to sort out the blue book after furnishing them with the required paperwork.

I'm in the same province, i've just changed address.

What paperwork will the new buyer/owner require from me

  1. Blue book
  2. ?
  3. ?
  4. ?

Buyer needs passport and address certificate.

Seller needs blue book and passport. Book must be registered in the same province as the transfer location. Maybe an address certificate depending on your DOT.

DOT has a required sell/purchase form which they will help you fill out and both of you sign. DOT POA signed by you if not attending the transfer. Car is required to be checked by DOT to insure serial numbers from book and car are the same. Road tax must be current.
