Severe flooding seen beyond Sakon Nakhon

BURIRAM, 1 August 2017 (NNT) – Apart from Sakon Nakhon, several other areas of the northeast have been declared disaster zones including in Buriram.

A torrent of water entered Boong Bao School of Buriram yesterday after flowing over the flood barriers of a local waterway. The school has now been submerged in over 50 centimeters of water and has announced a 3 day closure to allow the water to subside. The last time the school was flooded was during the major flood of 2011.

Waters have remained high in Nakhon Panom with levels at the local spillway measured at 30-40 centimeters above normal. Four districts of the province have already been declared disaster zones.

Bueng Kan province has noted effects to the banks of the Songkam River after days of high and steady moving water. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have prepared to evacuate residents if necessary.

A daily influx of over 100 million cubic meters of water into Kalasin’s Lampao Dam has increased its storage to 83 percent of capacity. The province has ordered that its releases be increased for a day’s time and will assess the situation further later.

The waters from Lampao however, are expected to hit Yasothon province, putting several districts including the province’s central district to go on alert.

...and they can't even blame the "government" or those pesky farrangs for the damage.
