I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be any kind of after market for auto parts in Thailand.

For my truck, the little pump for the windshield washer failed.

Nowhere to get a replacement but Nissan.

They would only sell the entire tank assembly.

This week an o-ring went on the gear shifter.

The mechanic said Nissan wouldn't sell an o-ring only the assembly.

We'll work around that, but it seems there would be a market for this type of store.

In the US there are multiple after market parts dealers and you can even order online.

Is there a reason there doesn't seem to be any in Thailand?

Try Mr Google for your answer. Try..... "Thailand auto parts & accessories 2017"

plenty of after market parts in Thailand

you have 2nd hand and checked at scrapyards (chiang koong) and some of the shops

around the Worachak intersection in Bangkok have refurbished after market parts

OK I tried the Google search, wasn't much use.

Are you saying there are retailers of aftermarket auto parts in Thailand.

Could you link them?

I am not referring to wreckers.

But, for instance, you could go in the US to NAPA auto parts and get a new, non OEM replacement part for much less than a dealer.

In North America sources like this were the primary source of replacement parts for backyard mechanics and small repair shops die to the cost savings.

I would have thought there would be a market in Thailand for this and was just wondering if there was a reason they don't seem to exist.

Is it the import duties or are there legal restrictions?

Yes, there are after market parts in Thailand

Some wreckers have good knowledge of this.

In the vicinity of some wrecker's areas you have shops with knowledge about after market parts.

Else,

in Bangkok you have spare parts shops in the Worachak area (mainly Thanon Worachak and Thanon Luang) that

have knowledge about after market parts.

In the Sam Yan / Patumwan area in BKK you also have shops that have knowledge about after

market parts.

Also in the Talad Noi area.

I have bought some after market parts for my engine in the Worachak area.

As far as I know there are no after market supermarket shops in BKK, but the parts are there and the knowledge is there. I have had to go and talk to people in the shops in the areas I mentioned.

Sorry, but I don't understand your problem. " just wondering if there was a reason they don't seem to exist."  They definitely exist.

There's pages & pages of Auto parts suppliers online.

I live in a medium size provincial city in Isaan. There's auto parts shops scattered across the city.

Where are you located ? Might help if we know where you are looking.

I think the OP is referring to a lack of any chain of auto parts shops like NAPA, Pep Boys, O'Reillys and Autozone in the US and Halfords in the UK. Sure Bangkok and any decent sized town has an area where most of these are co-located, sometimes all on the same street. Earlier posts have indicated the Bangkok locations.

Yes, thank you.

So there are some shops like this in Bangkok.

I didn't realize this.

Having been around some of the bigger cities outside of Bangkok, I had just never seen them.

So, I have been in the parts supply chain business for a few decades.

I was just wondering then if it works in Bangkok why wouldn't there be regional outlets?

Too old to even think about this, but it would seem to be a decent business idea.

There are regional outlets, owned by different, local companies. There's just no national ones.

Like the ones in Bangkok, they aren't on the 'high street' per-se so easy enough to think that because you haven't seen any in provincial towns, they don't exist. Ask a local where they are; maybe the best bet is ask a motorcycle taxi guy and if he 's not sure, he can phone a friend.

Autobacs comes to mind if you want aftermarket parts supermarket style.

Srisiam in Chasoensao is the largest one in Thailand.

RCA and Pornchai Autoparts in Chinatown are also seriously big.

I'll ask my wife for it. Or you could give me a list of what you need and I'll ship it out to you. We operate a parts shop in Isaan, but ship all over Thailand.

We deal especially in older cars (5 year up)
