The video first showed the young man forced to go on all fours on the ground. He is then kicked. After that he is subjected to several whacks with a stick and kicked violently while out of camera shot. Chief Apichai Krobpetch said that the man was tested for drugs and gave a positive purple result for his urine. He was also found in possession of one Ya Ba tablet. Apichai told Sanook: "He was processed according to the law. "When he came into the station there were no wounds on his body. He made no complaint and so no charges were made against the soldier concerned. "If he wants to he can press charges". Apichai said this was the man's fifth or sixth drug offence. Sanook reported that the victim was not available for comment. They said he was worried that there would be repercussions against his family who own a restaurant on the island. Jonathan Fairfield Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Soldier jailed after video of alleged prisoner abuse goes viral The Army has jailed a soldier for 15 days as an initial step after he allegedly assaulted two suspects in a drugs case whom he detained during an operation on Larn Island near Pattaya on Tuesday, deputy Army spokesperson Colonel Sirichan Ngathon said on Thursday. The assault allegedly including kicking and beating the two handcuffed suspects with a baton. The incident was recorded and posted on social media by a user who refused to reveal his name out of concern for his safety. The soldier’s unit, which includes officers from the police and provincial administration officials, was also ordered to cease operating on the island immediately, Sirichan said. She did not reveal the soldier’s name. She described the assaults as inappropriate personal behaviour, adding that after the clip went viral online, the Army had established a factfinding panel to investigate the incident and verify the details of the alleged beating. The spokesperson said the assaults took place during the detention of three suspects who had been arrested during an antidrugs operation on the island. The suspects were taken to an open pavilion on the island, where the solider in question is seen in the video clip kicking and beating two suspects with the baton. Sirichan said the Army was trying to contact the suspects’ families and the soldier would apologise to them and to the suspects. The Army as an institution was very sorry for the incident, although the act had been an instance of individual wrongdoing, Sirichan said. andersonat Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 None of what the Chief said forms an "explanation" for the Soldier beating the Suspects. I wonder if he's sufficiently thin-skinned to be embarrassed by the incident.
rtco Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 This is just a physical beating rather than the psychological beating being inflicted on the Thai people by the all powerful man at the top.

Manliness and self respect would negate such poor behavior.

dinsdale Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Lucky he wasn't in the Philippines with this madman at the helm. Thaksin had nothing on this lunatic.

mettech Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Well my best guess is if the president of the Philippinnes has any success doing what he do best is to elliminate competition the way he does it why not a litle discipline to the drug dealer.
observer90210 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 In any civilised country, an official bashing up a suspect that is not posing any threat, would plainly be sacked and charges pressed. That is, in a civilised country....
lvr181 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 I can only guess that "wounds" do not equal bruising in the eyes of the Pattaya station chief? So, who's in charge, the Military or the Police?
jacko45k Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 People on drugs are often responsible for crimes on innocent people, tourists for example. If one or two get a kicking, I could care less.

You see. You don't understand the Philippines. There, this man is "ridding" the country of scum people who's only crime is to get a bit of pleasure in their abject poverty from substance use. Poverty being far worse than Thailand and alcohol being not quite the only drug of choice there. There citizens are "encouraged" to just get a gun and kill each other. Very sensible. Ex-judicial justice on the streets. Keeps the pressure off the police who are busy with the actual business of running things.
