Cataract operation in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

I discovered recently that I will be required to get a cataract operation and would like to know currently what are the best hospitals in Chiang Mai to accomplish or would it be better to fo the USA where they may have better equipment but maybe cost more...unless covered in Medicare.    The last posting I saw was 3 years ago and possibly some of you have had recent experiences to share.

It has been 2 years since I had mine at cpat hospital. The Dr. trained in Australia and was very good several other people I know also had the surgery from her all sucessful. No need really to go back to the states. She used a german machine that does it all pretty much. Sorry cannot remember her name. You have a choice of lenses to choose from I just went with the simplest

Thank you very much and I googled cpat hospital and nothing comes up...is there another name?

They mean Sripat, it is a quasi-profit wing if CMU Hospital   http://sriphat.med.cmu.ac.th/en/home

Chiang Mai Ram Hospital (private) has a good opthalmology dept with many of the professors from CMU there.  http://www.chiangmairam.com/searchdoctor1?major_id=133&doctor=&page=1

You can have it done by the same doctors, at lower price but also less convenience (in terms of waiting time etc) at Sripat.

I worked in an eye hospital, and not many cataract operations went wrong, but ANY surgery can go wrong, or there can be post op infection, so make sure to ask if follow up treatment is included in the cost.
