  1. Add me to the list of those who have had a washing machine hose burst. In my case it was the hot water supply and I came home to a kitchen full of steam but it was a small breach so not a vast quantity of water although still enough to do damage. There are accessible taps but even now I don't turn them off when I'm away.
  2. Only non-stop alternatives are from BKK instead of DMK with Thai or Nepal Airlines.
  3. You still aren't explaining what you have in an understandable manner as indicated by topt. How it appears to me is that you have a router communicating on 2 available frequencies. These are 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The 2.4 GHz frequency is slower but reaches further and will pass through obstacles like walls better, and this could posssibly explain why you have 2 bars on one and 5 bars on the other. But. You say your phone won't connect to your 2.4GHz network which seems strange as your laptop sees it OK. In the phone shop you'll be too far away to see it. You should find it under settings, Wi-Fi or similar which should then show you a list of available networks. A router with 2.4 and 5GHz capability usually just has the name and _2.4 or _5 after it to show the difference. You can check the exact name by looking for it on your laptop which you say connects to it no problem. The 2G and 3G phones you mention are 2nd and 3rd Generation mobile phone technology and not relevant AIUI, but I could have misunderstood you altogether. Try again but with some pictures of what you're seeing if posssible.
  4. But don't wait 8 years (the time since you signed up) to do it.
  5. Damini just up from the post office on Soi 13/? are competive going the other way so might be worth calling too.
  6. Can you explain why that is the case? My understanding is the requirement is 180(?) days in a calendar year. By May 2025 there will only have been 151 days elapsed so you can't know at that point, or is there another reason you chose that date?
  7. I understand it was the manually implemented solution before they introduced the long stay option in the reason for transfer space. No harm in having both.
  8. I'm going with what I read online which I agree is not infallible, but anyway, as posted above the Thai bank owning the ATM also knows and may report it using some other instrument. Agreed, the amount of data to trawl through would be incredible which is why I'm not worrying overly about this recent development. My rough calculations show I'm still paying far more in tax in the UK than I would here and one would be credited against the other AIUI so no net effect on me if so.
  9. X.com existed before single letter domains became restricted in 1993 therefore was allowed to remain in existence even though new single letter domains would not be permitted. Twitter must have acquired it from it's original owner but just use it to redirect traffic to twitter.com
  10. Here's Wise's take on transfers to Thailand including their transfer partners, how it shows in BBL and KBank when received from abroad and how to get the evidence if the system fails, as it apparently has done. There's a new one (to me) on there now detailing the process for transfers over 50K baht to SCB. You may have to be logged in to see the page. https://wise.com/help/articles/2932335/guide-to-thb-transfers
  11. Both countries have signed up to the OECD Common Reporting Standard which allows for this information to be shared.
  12. Information on debit card ATM withdrawals will also be in the data communicated from his overseas bank to Thailand.
  13. Just what we need. Another thread with armchair interpretation of the new rules for others to argue about. You've done well though - yours is one of the worst understandings to be posted so far.
  14. Did you add any ancillaries like hold luggage or seat selection? I've noticed with some agents they bump up the price on these so after luring you in with the low headline price they sucker punch you later.
  15. The option about buying property in Thailand also takes the "long" route and gets marked as an FTT by BBL as that's a requirement when funding a condo purchase.
  16. I agree if your home bank doesn't know you're a tax resident elsewhere they may not send any data. If a Thai bank identifies you as tax resident then their data will be sent to your home country so that may close the loop in identifying you in the UK or wherever. I don't know how or what the Thai banks notify the RD with.
  17. Do you have any type of visa or extension or are you arriving Visa Exempt or Visa on Arrival?
  18. There are numerous threads on here crying "where's my money" or "Wise taking forever" or words to that effect. I've never experienced any serious issues but others seem to. As regarding them being the cheapest, it all depends on how much you send and in what currency. Currently the comparison tool on Wise' website shows them behind Revolut and Western Union for a transfer of £1,000 GBP to Thailand. Other services may have disadvantages even if you are getting more baht in your pocket, so I'd be wary of changing without looking at the big picture.
  19. If your phone has NFC capability you can read your passport chip and see exactly what it contains. As already mentioned, that's the info from the data page and a digital image of the photo. The specification allows for additional biometric data like fingerprints and eye scan but these do not appear to be widely used (yet). There is no reference to previous passport numbers stored on the chip, or any other data that you can't see by looking at the passport itself.
  20. It's more detail than an end of year balance and it applies to anyone deemed a "Reportable Person". If (and I think it's unlikely) Thailand decide you need a TIN, then you become a "Reportable Person".
  21. Both countries are participants in the Common Reporting Standard which means an annual transfer of data detailing bank account activity.
  22. I'm not telling anyone to change, just raising awareness of another option. It could just be kept as a backup for when Wise doesn't work, and a new player often has some special offers. I frequently used Xendpay as an alternative before their demise as they kept offering fee free transfers to entice me back, which made them a better deal.
