  1. Ying & yang .... ... a bit more for link
  2. The only reason I lasted 13 years at NWA. That and the flight bennies. They didn't really care who worked your shift, as long as there was a body there. So you find a 'trade partner', who bids one shift, and you bid a different shift. So you work 2 of his, the same day you work to of yours. Two 16 hour days. I use to just give my single shift day away most of the time, unless it was a holiday at 2.5X the rate.
  3. You can add that to all the other predictions that never came true. I've lived through enough of them, and seems every 5 or 10 years, some other doom & gloom predictions is forecasts, and passed without happening.
  4. I didn't ... that's why I quit about 30 jobs. Some lasted a week, or a month or 2 or 6. One lasted 1 day. One of the reasons I was self employed a lot of the time. Along with getting my work week down to 2 'full' days a week, with 5 off to actually make money or simply chill. I did work for an airlines (4 actually) after all, and used them flight bennies a lot.
  5. Actually I think it's all BS myself, as many climatologists don't agree with global warming. "Whether most scientists outside climatology believe that global warming is happening is less relevant than whether the climatologists do. A letter signed by over 50 leading members of the American Meteorological Society warned about the policies promoted by environmental pressure groups. “The policy initiatives derive from highly uncertain scientific theories. They are based on the unsupported assumption that catastrophic global warming follows from the burning of fossil fuel and requires immediate action. We do not agree.”2 Those who have signed the letter represent the overwhelming majority of climate change scientists in the United States, of whom there are about 60." McMichael and Haines quote the 1995 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is widely believed to “prove” that climate change induced by humans has occurred.3 The original draft document did not say this. What happened was that the policymakers’ summary (which became the “take home message” for politicians) altered the conclusions of the scientists. This led Dr Frederick Seitz, former head of the United States National Academy of Sciences, to write, “In more than sixty years as a member of the American scientific community ... I have never witnessed a more disturbing corruption of the peer-review process than the events that led to this IPCC report.”4 Policymaking should be guided by proved fact, not speculation. Most members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change believe that current climate models do not accurately portray the atmosphere-ocean system. Measurements made by means of satellites show no global warming but a cooling of 0.13°C between 1979 and 1994.5 Furthermore, since the theory of global warming assumes maximum warming at the poles, why have average temperatures in the Arctic dropped by 0.88°C over the past 50 years?5"
  6. That and independence of grid and govt. Performance was even a bigger plus than I expected. Planet is fine, been here for quite some time, and will be here quite a while longer after the parasites self destruct. A couple degrees over the next few 100 years will be the least of their concerns.
  7. Curious, Googled, found this ... link Need to sort through as some seem to be walking trails. Not sure if any near BKK.
  8. Wife whipped up a very nice pesto this evening 👍👍
  9. So it took 100+ years, to go up maybe ~0.7 degrees ...
  10. Yep, part of the job sometimes. Every year we'd bid a job position & area to work at. What ever your seniority holds, and dictated what you did, where you worked, days off & vacation time. Then people would bid to work on your crew.
  11. Supervising ramp rat for airlines (NWA). Computer weight & balance entry, load cargo, luggage, mail, was last salaried job, for 13 years, (usually two 16 hr days a week). Arrived Thailand to stay Sept 14, 2000, age 45. Spent last 6 months on the job, commuting from Thailand, though here/TH more than at work. Burned up all my sick & vacation time. Last day of employment March 4, 2001. Also held ... ... commercial truck driver's license ... RE license ... FFL (Fed Firearms License/sell & collect), registered business ... Chimney Sweep, registered business ... Slum Lord ... unlicensed market investor High school diploma & unsponsored online course w/30 days hands on computer training, prep for travel/airlines employment. Born and raised in Philadelphia area, PA, USA. Last 5 years lived & worked in Memphis, TN area. Although followed the money, and lived in 6 different states over the years, PA, WV, NJ, MI, TN, FL.
  12. 84 ... I should be so lucky. Also played on David Essex's Rock On, along w/Bowie tracks. On topic .... without the roids (assuming) Bautista will live longer. R I P
  13. No Believe in climate change. Don't believe in man made climate change. I believe in 'seasonal' doom & gloom predictions to raise fear, taxes & prices, as something never change. The one constant you can depend on
  14. Wife harvested some asparagus. She does that about every 3 days and gets a nice size serving for 2. Dragon fruit is starting to produce. She said we might even have some grapes come February. Figs have slowed down, although the Black Mission variety are showing fruit, as seem to produce the most of the varieties. Lots of butternut squash, more than we can eat. Spinach grows wild, so unlimited supply of that. Bunch of lemons, finally and 'her fist' size, so may actually have some damn juice. Waiting on more limes. Grapefruit finally took, so maybe next year. That would really be nice. Had Passion fruit, though someone pinched half of them. Got a sign hanging now on the wire, pointing out the CCTV now installed. grapefruit ...
  15. I'm waiting for this item to drop down a bit more, since I really don't need it now. Only drop 160 baht, vs 400 from previous sale
  16. And that's his right of course. Although, the smart play is BEV & Solar ... IMHO Well, for caring & money management. But a subject for another thread On topic, as always. If he was driving a BEV, the heavy low center of gravity, probably would have prevented the roll over ... maybe.
  17. After 3 wives, maybe he's had enough, and taking a walk on the wild side ...
  18. Don't know how you read all that in one statement of mine. Been working since about age 12 fairly non stop. Till 45, when I no longer needed to work, due to my investments over the years in RE, and the market. Work smarter ... not harder Makes for 'Happy to be Alive' ... On Topic of course. Live with your choices, as everyone has options, and the same opportunity. I actually produced as much income after retiring, in the market, than my total income from salaried jobs. Means 2 things, did well in the market, and didn't make much from salaried jobs ... I paid more taxes in one year after retirement, than my best year of salaried job ($75k vs $50k). Why I tired of investing, if govt going to take 37-40%, well, try to, when I'm taking all the risk. I have enough, and no desire to pay for their wars or support their tyranny. Wife and or gf paid their own taxes, right out of their paycheck. I simply didn't declare my income. You actually think I mooched off people for 6 yrs I ain't that handsome, or know anyone that dumb Not declaring income is different from not producing.
  19. Don't think I miss the discounts, and 38 baht for shipping isn't going to set the monthly budget back much. Phone app is just too annoying, and lacks info to make an informed choice. Probably save more than the offered discounts, with the added info when searching on the PC. I've been peeking at TEMU lately, seems to be mostly low end pricing stuff, though TBH, haven't really searched for anything particular, appliance wise or something more expensive. Just peek at their links when the pop up. Anyone order from them yet. I think most comes from overseas, though they do offer discount if arrival is later than posted date.
  20. Maybe just off the steroids and the work outs. Got enough money now to enjoy life and just stay fit
  21. That sucks, though nice having what you need. I have both, thankfully, grateful and appreciative of both, though worked for it. Actually can't think of what to spend money on, unless going really frivolous, and it's not in my thrifty nature. I buy enough silly expensive stuff, really can't think of what else to get. It's a good place to be. Always had enough, even though a few times, just barely enough, but this is different, and very nice. Good for the wife, even though thrifty herself, spends a bit on her smile. The damn kid, too independent for me to buy her stuff. Tried a couple times and she said, nope, she'd buy, as like paying her own way. Love & hate that about her. Wife's retirement & our oops fund has grown quite a bit, since kid graduated Uni.
  22. As I stated, govt & legal thing, hard to get around if they have the information. I've avoided more than I paid (taxes) by not offering information. When I was getting Soc Sec (disability), at court, judge asked if I was incarcerated ... I'm like ... "What ?" He pointed out I had 6 years of 'no income' ... "self employed your honor, it's was hard economic times. Good thing wife or gf was employed"
  23. I avoid as many as possible. When in USA, I certainly didn't offer my true income when doing taxes, and only paid tax on what they knew about. Which was a fraction of my income. Didn't pay taxes on rental income or most of self employment income. Only if it was reported to IRS. My tax liability in the USA was ~40% some years. Just Federal tax, now @ 35% when breaking $243,725 to $609,350. Actually it was 37% when I lived there. Then have to add on state tax, and city tax, if applicable. Pennsylvania had income tax @ 3%. Last 5 yrs working, lived in Tennessee, no income tax Here in TH, there basically are no taxes to pay (so far), except VAT, and everyone pays that. One of the major pluses of living here. Aside from income tax, RE Taxes were running my ~$6,000 a year. That was 25 years ago
  24. Wife has had eye surgery at Chula, and I've had a few basic procedures (check up) done at Chula. Excellent service & pricing. Though having a Thai speaker is an advantage, though not really needed, IF, you are a patient people person. No overnight for either of us. They do have long Qs (months) for basic services, since most popular govt hosp. in most populated city. Can pay extra for 'off hours' services. As stated above, would think any non 4 person room is reserved months in advance. We did our yearly or abouts, 'health check ups" at Camillian Hosp, Thong Lo area, when living in Udon Thani. Now I do locally at PKK govt hosp.
  25. I accept the rules (mostly) on a govt / legal level. But as far as living under another persons rules / lifestyle I don't agree with, NO. Why would I subject myself to being unhappy, for someone else's benefit. I do what I want, when I want. I don't cower & comply to other people.
