What are you having for Dinner tonight?
KhunLA replied to bob smith's topic in Western Food in Thailand
Beef tenderloin, r-g-y pepper, onion stir fry. Cleaning out frig. Remembered had pork tallow, so threw that in with a bit of flour & milk, so turned into a nice gravy. Tasty enough by itself. Sprinkled w/spring onions, having way too much from the garden. Gave some to the neighbor, and small food vendor that the wife gets stuff from every now & then. Baked bread today, so had my couple slices of carb already. Wife has plenty leftover rice. -

Not so sure about fruits; dried, juiced, IF, sugar is an issue Some things (Cashew) higher calorie count, if weight is an problem. I'm a big fan of Salmon, Broccoli & Cashews. Here's a good start ... 12 foods high in potassium 1. Dried apricots Potassium per serving 100g = 1880mg Dried apricots contain 602mg of potassium per serving of eight apricots. They’re also a great source of fibre, which is important for a healthy digestive system.2 Dried apricots are also a good source of iron and magnesium. Both of these are required for energy production, making dried apricots a good snack choice for a boost of energy.3 2. Cooked lentils Potassium per serving (100g) = 310mg Lentils are a vegan/vegetarian-friendly protein source containing 9g of protein, as well as being one of the foods high in potassium, with 310mg for every 100g serving. They’re also an excellent source of selenium, which plays a key role in maintaining a functional immune system.4 Lentils are also very low in fat, making them a lean source of protein, carbohydrate and fibre. 3. Baked potato Potassium per serving (165g) = 990mg A baked potato is an excellent source of potassium, with one medium-sized potato containing 990mg. A baked potato also contains approximately 4g of fibre. Baked potatoes are a high glycaemic carbohydrate source, making them a good option in a post-workout meal as they help to replenish glycogen stores.5 4. Kidney beans Potassium per 100g = 280mg Kidney beans are another vegan/vegetarian-friendly protein source, containing 7g of protein in every 100g alongside 280g of potassium. Kidney beans may also support your metabolism as they contain a good source of both phosphorus and manganese.3 Phosphorus also plays a key role in the formation of bones and teeth.6 5. Chicken breast Potassium per 100g = 460mg A lean protein source made up of a high percentage of essential amino acids — a medium-sized chicken breast fillet (120g) contains 38g protein and 552mg of potassium. Chicken breast is also an excellent source of B vitamins (especially B3 and B6), phosphorous, and selenium. Three words. Fajita. Chicken. Rolls. 6. Banana Potassium per 100g = 208mg Bananas contain 208mg of potassium per serving and are also a high glycaemic carbohydrate source, making them a good post workout snack. Additionally, bananas are a good source of vitamin B6, which is important for metabolism and energy production.3 Banana bread never went out of style in our book... 7. Milk (semi skimmed) Potassium per 100g = 156mg Half a pint of milk contains 418mg of potassium and provides a great blend of both protein (10g) and carbohydrates (12g). Milk contains casein protein, a slow-acting protein that can help reduce muscle-protein breakdown.7 Due to this it makes for a good pre-bed snack for those looking to build or preserve muscle.8 Milk also contains a high amount of calcium, which is important for healthy bones and teeth.9 8. Broccoli Potassium per 100g = 212mg In addition to potassium, broccoli is also a very good source of vitamin K, which helps the body heal from wounds and contributes to blood clotting.10 Broccoli also contains a high amount of vitamin C, which is also good forwound healing, and is important for healthy skin and bones and preventing scurvy.11 9. Salmon Potassium per 100g = 411mg As well as being one of our foods high in potassium, salmon is also an example of an oily fish containing healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s have been linked to a wide range of health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity and immunity.12 Salmon is also a good protein source, containing 23g in every 100g and is high in other important vitamins such as vitamin D, vitamin E and B vitamins. DIY poke bowl; potassium perfection. 10. Orange juice Potassium per 100g = 170mg A typical serving-sized (150ml) glass of orange juice contains approximately 265mg of potassium and a large dose of vitamin C. The sugar content of juices is quite high, so it’s best to be cautious with the quantity and stick to the recommended NHS serving size of 150ml.13 11. Cashews Potassium per 100g = 710mg Cashews are an excellent source of potassium, with 710mg per 100g. Due to the high-fat content, caution should be taken with the portion size if you are following an energy-restricted diet, with 10 whole cashews containing 128mg of potassium and 103kcals. Cashews are also a good source of magnesium, which plays a part in a wide range of biological roles including muscle function, blood pressure regulation and the maintenance of a healthy immune system.14 12. Apple Potassium per 100g = 710mg A medium-sized apple (175g) contains 174mg of potassium. Apples are also a source of fibre (1.2g per medium apple), minerals such as iodine, copper and chloride, and vitamins (including vitamin C and vitamin K). https://www.myprotein.co.in/blog/nutrition/foods-high-in-potassium/

To beard or not to beard, that's the question

Used to have beard or goatee, now shave, as almost comes in all grey, and adds at least 10 yrs to my handsomeness ... No Thanks, as way to vain for that 😎 -
We're surrounded by pineapple & coconut farms. One reason I didn't retire at the places I was familiar with in the USA. FL would have been 1st choice, if not for hurricane season. West coast too expensive (CA), or rainy (OR & WA). Caribbean Islands, back to hurricane season. Canada & N. USA ... too cold. Not really a fan of the Gulf. Bays on Gulf of TH are prettier. Prefer to be near the surf, though disappointed with the diving in TH, and mediocre at best. Took a while to get to PKK, but fits us perfectly. Where we went and ended up mostly on holiday anyway. If not here, PKK, then would have been further South, among the 'limestone' hills. Except daughter settled at Krung Thep, so only 4 hrs. Was at Hua Hin yesterday ... HELL NO. Don't know why, only 100 kms north, but air worse, and the congestion was a joke. Took the wife 15 mins to leave PEA, get into the mess, make a U-turn, and pick me up ... all of about 700 meters On Topic ... Fire area would scare the hell out of me, as too unpredictable, and insurance rates, same as flood & typhoon areas would be silly high, if they even cover you.

I agree, and no, don't eat croissants very often, just for that reason. But, when I do, I try to limit the sugar / insulin spikes, as much as possible. Loading up with fat & protein before, with a stroll afterward helps that.

Current PEA off peak rate ฿5.7 / kWh That's not much different from home rate of heavy electric user.

Build house with steel roof ✔️ & block / concrete walls ✔️ Don't build in fire zone ✔️ Don't live in tornado ally (USA) Don't live near tidal surges ✔️ Don't live where you have hurricane / typhoon season ✔️ Don't live in flood zone ✔️ Don't live near fault line ✔️ Don't live near in-laws ✔️ Don't live near expats ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ✔️

How many times a day do you pee and what it says about your health
KhunLA replied to Rimmer's topic in The Wellness Zone
IMO you're taking it too much, if need to P every hour or so. Along with interrupting your deep sleep, as that's when the body does a bit of repair work. Longer REM helps you immune system, or so I read ... "You May Get Sick More Often When you’re suffering from broken sleep, you may find yourself getting ill more often as well. You need good, uninterrupted sleep for your immune system to function properly. With consistently broken sleep, it’s harder for your body to fight off infections and reduce inflammation." https://sleepdoctor.com/sleep-deprivation/interrupted-sleep/ -

Actually a huge 1st meal for me. My usual eggs w/crispy onion chili oil. Hoping the steak, eggs (fat & protein), eaten first, then the whole wheat croissant's protein & fat, along with the cream cheese, will negate most of the carbs & sugar, eaten last. So digested slower, and no sugar / insulin spike. Add in the walk at the park, which is next ... so still eating Keto-ish, and much healthier than years past. This after that 15 hr overnight fast

Wow, what a scam, ok, overpriced. And people fall for that ? That's a shame.

I was knocked out, still the same price, ~12k for each, done at same time.

"Is it possible to get endoscopy ... and ... Colonoscopy for 10-15k these days, don't even mind travelling out of Bangkok if needed." And ... NO Price for each ... Yes No recommendation, as having mine (both) done about 5 yrs ago, and for ~12k 'each', I think. Surely some folks will chime in with more current info.

Everything you stated was incorrect. But if want point to point ... ... already pointed out, you can get a mortgage for as many years as you want, as long as you qualify. The bank will push 30 yrs, as big profit maker, and if that's all you can afford, that's fine. You can also pay it off as fast as you want also. My mortgages were 5 & 10 yrs long, and paid off even earlier. ... every house I bought was 30+ yrs old, and now probably knocking on 100 yrs old ... first one was 18" thick stone on 1st floor, and other 2 were red brick ... and no, the house does appreciate, not just the land, no matter how large the land lot is. Townhouses & condos appreciate nicely, and have little to no land. As materials & labor cost rise every year, so does older house prices. Since the industry is well established. Unlike Thailand, where new & better, and cheaper materials have arrived or been produced since I've been here, along with lots of competition now; Global House & HomePro when we built our 2nd & 3rd house. When I first got here, 2020, it was all ma/pa shops, or a crappy HomeMart at Udon Thani. Then the 2 above arrived, and now there a couple more huge DIY place in ever metro area. That has kept the cost of construction low, and yes, in TH, the land is the main appreciating factor. Or was for our homes and land investments. Not sure about townhouses & condo. Townhouses rise a bit, but unless condo in a very desirable area, then not so much, if at all. Again, newer & better being built all the time, so why buy old. Point for point, you were wrong on every one concerning the USA. Certainly doesn't mean there are not crappy home building out there, but not in my experiences, from 1978-2000, as home owner, investor, or RE agent, w/RE license. -

That's one of the most ridiculous and ignorant replies I've read in a long time. You know absolutely nothing about USA RE, building, construction or mortgages. -

Just like stocks, one has to buy & sell smartly. Just because the graph shows drops, doesn't mean one's holdings dropped, whether RE or stocks. -
