  1. Never any visits since 2011. Got a new Non O retirement in July at KK office after border run. So I missed the opportunity ???? Sounds like at the next extension nitpicking triple check to be expected.

    City Hogs

Today I stumbled upon an article in German about the hogs in Pattaya. And now searched the forum and see that there is full blown news thread about it: https://aseannow.com/topic/1285903-wild-boar-on-the-loose-in-pattaya-draws-major-social-media-attention/
  3. 3BB for example. About 8% saving with one year advance payment (~one month free). I did this voluntarily (contract is in wife's name). From what I read one year advance for foreigners contract is usual at 3BB. Thais also have a one year contract obligation but can pay monthly. ISP looses if the foreigner does "the runner". Can you pay monthly after one year as a foreigner? I don't know. Here I often read about bad service from True. Rarely so for 3BB.
  4. Hard to believe five people had to die for the theft of such a small uniaxle tractor with a wooden trailer going at pedestrian speed.
  5. A standard mafia taxi from the airport to Patong costs 700 or more. My idea: they have contacts/agents who arrange business with their fellow citizens. Six(?) years ago I found a cheap taxi service from Pattaya to U-Tapao. Driver was a Russian woman who was very cautious not to be seen at the hotel. Waiting in the car. Shortly before arrival she stopped and asked me to pay Again she hide away at the terminal entrance.
  6. Sorry mixed you up with the thread starter and the tread being in the Pattaya forum. I live in KK province but being in Pattaya a couple of times during the year. The hint regarding the ATMs likely applies to all Central shopping centers and similar.
  7. Been riding with the scooter up and down so often. I don't have the slightest memory about traffic signs there. From the police box down a long stretch it's definitely a two way road and wide enough. At some point it simply becomes narrow and the mess can start. I can not even remember white/red on the curb to indicate parking forbidden. Coming from Thepprasit Soi 5 (Sands Cafe) there is also nothing in signs that I remember. And they scratch their heads why there is a mess???
  8. Bangkok Bank is on a down slope in different ways. But as you are in Pattaya just go to Central Festival or probably some main bank branches and you will find ATMs that spend more. SCB at Central has this monstrous multiple purpose (self service) machine that promises to handle 200 notes. Worth a try.
  9. If you take care not to fall into the DCC trap the exchange rates are determined by the card issuer (VISA, Mastercard...). These rates are not that bad. DCC: local banks try to let them do the exchange and show you the amount in your currency. If ever you see your currency then cancel/abort. https://wise.com/us/blog/choose-local-currency-at-foreign-atm In the first years I often used cards. Since years now using WISE transfer.
  10. AFAIK there is no bank anymore with free withdrawals. The fee is 220 at most banks. AEON charges 150 but limits withdrawal to 20k. Do the math. The usual hint: try to withdraw as much as possible with a single take. Many modern ATMs allow 30k some also 50k. (seen for SCB, Krungsri and Kasikorn) But as I don't use cards since ages I can't tell whether it works practically. Best ATM machines are at fancy places like Central Festival.
  11. Of course not. Quite likely birdstrike. A completely wrong assumption makes it to a headline. Tires might have been blown from the emergency break.
  12. If it is up I will ask: when will Alphabet buy you and what will be the price?
  13. Treetown is the low hangout. Soi 6 is the best place ... Sorry for shortcut. But makes my day.
  14. Friend lives on 8th floor (1 to ???? of a Condo off from Soi Watboon 3 (more or less in viewing distance). No sprinklers. He does not know the exact age of the building just that it is older than 12 years. What he has is a smoke detector in the room.
  15. Treetown disturbs you more than another huge tower? You love the Benidorm touch? Terrible idea to put it on Soi Buakhao which is already a traffic nightmare.
  16. Many recommendations also here in the forum. Interesting that he(?) also advertises with signs in German language. Map link: https://goo.gl/maps/ZkYDzWK8tHw1e26B8 (opposite PEA electric power substation a bit east) And be aware that on some sections of Pattaya Klang rd every 3rd house is a dentist. Don't walk into the wrong one
  17. Buth what kind of legalization services are these?
  18. Of course. At the Avenue they were amongst the last survivors on the upper floors.

    City Hogs

I know. But it's hard to believe that they survived a long walk from the darkside e.g.? Just found an article about an estimated 50 hogs on the darkside (Khao Talo area): And it's a known fact and a plague that hogs walk in city/populated areas damaging parks/greens. Crack open garbage cans. Having encounters with dogs. So maybe these are not missed

Bet someone misses them. Such beast are kept like farm animals up here.
  21. That's where immigration officers on inactive posts are sent too ???? Sit and watch the border. Sorry have no serious answer.
  22. The big bridges yes. Like Nong Khai to Vientiane. But this news is likely irrelevant for us foreigners. Small checkpoints I never heard of and I guess open only for Thai and Lao people. What does "Traditional checkpoints" mean?
  23. Some posters seem to have no idea what "poor" means. Can't afford business class? Hotel less than 5star?
