Transport Suvarnabhumi Airport to Conduct Full-Scale Emergency Drill Simulating Aircraft Fire

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), operated by Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), has announced plans to conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise simulating an aircraft fire on the apron. The drill is scheduled to take place on 17 July 2025, between 09:00 and 12:00, as part of the airport’s annual safety preparedness programme for the 2025 fiscal year. The exercise, codenamed SEMEX–25, will be held at Stand S126, located near the SAT-1 (Satellite Terminal 1) concourse. The scenario will simulate a fire outbreak on a stationary aircraft to test emergency protocols, firefighting capabilities, medical response, coordination and crisis communication procedures among all relevant stakeholders. According to airport officials, the drill is part of the airport’s comprehensive emergency management plan and aims to enhance operational readiness among all departments including airport firefighting services, medical teams, airside operations, ground handling agents and government emergency services. It is also designed to reinforce international safety standards, in line with requirements from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). “The purpose of this full-scale drill is not only to ensure our emergency teams can respond swiftly and effectively, but also to boost public and stakeholder confidence in the safety protocols at Suvarnabhumi Airport,” said a spokesperson for AOT. Passengers and the public are advised that the drill is a training simulation only and not to be alarmed by any visible emergency response activity during the stated period. Suvarnabhumi Airport has a longstanding commitment to safety, and this exercise is part of ongoing efforts to maintain its status as one of Southeast Asia’s leading aviation hubs. Similar drills are conducted annually, covering various emergency scenarios such as runway incidents, hazardous material leaks and public health emergencies. Accident Chachoengsao: Two Young Boys Fall into Pond – One Survives
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A family visit turned into heartbreak when two young boys fell into a pond in Chachoengsao province, leaving one child dead and another fighting for his life. Thanks to the efforts of doctors, one of the children was revived, while the other did not survive. The incident occurred at approximately 17:00 on 11 July, in a residential area in Moo 3, Wang Yen subdistrict, Plaeng Yao district. Police Lieutenant Chokchai Chokchayanan, Deputy Inspector of the Plaeng Yao Police Station, responded to a report from the Phanom Rescue Centre about two children who had drowned in a garden pond near a workers’ housing complex. Upon arrival, officers and rescue personnel found a child’s shoe floating in the pond. Local workers explained that they had heard a mother crying out for her missing son. Neighbours and residents joined the search and within 20 minutes, the body of a young boy wearing a yellow shirt was found face-down in the water. Moments later, the second boy was also located submerged nearby. Rescuers immediately pulled the boys from the water and rushed them to hospital. On route to and at the hospital, medical staff performed emergency CPR. One boy, aged five, responded and regained a pulse. The second boy was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts. At the hospital, the mother of the surviving boy tearfully recounted what had happened. She said her friend, a fellow Myanmar national, had brought her son, named Tong Tong, to visit. Tong Tong and her own son, Mario, who was of a similar age, went out to play together near their accommodation. When they did not return, the families began searching in panic. The desperate search ended in heartbreak when the children were found unconscious in the water. As her son was being treated in the emergency room, the mother walked to the hospital spirit shrine to pray for a miracle. When she returned, doctors informed her that her son had a heartbeat again.
