Ptfe tape would make it worse it has to seat on gasket hence compression

Are you sure those fittings are to use with a gasket/seal.

 

Don't normally get a fitting screwing down on a gasket/seal, it will chew it up.

 

They look like the regular tapered thread and as "eycatcher" said use more tape.

The one on the left is a standard BSPT (tapered thread) fitting.

 

 

The one on the right is a flat-face BSPP (parallel thread) fitting.

 

The fitting on the left can be used with pipe dope, PTFE, whatever as the seal is made on the threads.

 

The fitting on the right should not be used with PTFE as the joint seal is provided by a rubber gasket.

Well thank you grolies for clearing that up I did question it at the store and was told same same but and it is a big but water on top of a sheet rock coffered ceiling
