Thaiwrath Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Best wishes to him, I hope he pulls through.
anon789561 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 that's terrible. that's going to be over 30,000 pounds a month. i would hope he can get well enough to fly back to blighty for treatment
sawadee1947 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 that is one example how important it is to have a good insurance. If you can't afford to pay by your own means stay off here. and stay in your home country where NHS covers everything
richard_smith237 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 He was working here, was he not work permitted ? could his medical care be taken care of under the 30 baht scheme ?
jinners Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 No insurance and diving instructor? Bonkers

Yes, social security must be paid for employees having a work permit. They can then get government health care for 30 baht.

liveandletsdive Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Yes, thank you 12Drink More, Dan had comprehensive insurance which covered his emergency evacuation from Koh Tao to Samui and for his medical bills, treatment and surgery. Following the surgery his insurance would no longer cover for his care. Thank you to those of you wishing him well.

Boss Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Hospitals here in Thailand are getting increasingly greedy. When they receive a sick falang the $-signs are flashing in their eyes. My Thai insurance company offered me a "free" flu vaccination. When i signed the bill it showed that they would charge the insurance company about 3,000 Bath for something that in my home country (Sweden) would cost only about 1/4 of that price.

liveandletsdive Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Yes Catman20, we all know what you are insinuating, but really???? You have to post that when a man is fighting for his life due to natural causes?! Have a heart!!

No sweat at all.

Yes and even better if you work and pay 750 bath/ month you can choose 1 private hospital for free treathment and free medicine. If you pay for 6 month and stop working you keep the insurance for 422 baht/month. Ofcause you need workpermit and have to pay tax to be accepted by the social security organization in thailand and it is only for employees. Not for an employer. P.s not all private hospitals accept sso.

Sadly he cannot be transported or take a flight home as his condition is critical!!!. Maybe he has personal savings but given his critical situation there is no way to access his personal finances. We are all just coming together as a group of family and friends wanting to help a friend in need at a time of need.
scubascuba3 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Unlucky. 39 is young for a stroke, probably had an undiagnosed condition. Hopefully it works out for him.
Doctorbu Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 11 hours ago, sweatalot said: again - health insurance is important Yes....I pay almost 10k baht a month for insurance...but it pays for air evacuation to USA if needed. I probably don't need so much coverage but I've seen so many sad situations like this poor guy..thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

Worse for positive outcomes from cancer to childbirth, accidental deaths and emergencies. Only socialist ideologues with little real life experience think any different. It's best to have private insurance in the UK and for travel with a medivac option.
