Removing windshield to install protection/tint film ? Is it usual process ?

Yes but 3M 40% is good to reduce heat and does not change vision it seems ?
 
 
 
 
Even 100% transparent film introduces some distortion, but maybe 3M doesn't follow the laws of physics?

I discovered this when replacing the gel pack in my windshield-mounted rain sensor. After popping off the covers, I see the after-market tint film is smoothly pre-shaped to skirt around this fixture on the inside of the glass. Doesn't look like a bodge job, scissors cut either so agree that some tint films are probably pre-cut for different rides.
