A 42 year old "stressed out" man sitting outside a temple in Samut Prakarn was seen pouring gasoline over his head.

He then used matches to set fire to himself.

Police and Por Teck Tung medics on the scene rushed Prakasit to hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Thidarat Sukha of the Phrapadaeng police handling the case said that the incident happened on Thursday at the entrance to Wat Asa Songkhram in Talat sub-district.

Prakasit used gasoline that he had brought with him in a one liter soda bottle, she said.

Sanook reported that a witness saw the man sitting alone rambling incoherently in a stressed out state. Shortly after he poured the gasoline over his head and set fire to himself using matches.

Police are trying to ascertain the exact sequence of events and reasons for the incident.

they could also read the Sanook Report, but have to translate it first (will take ~3 weeks)

"Police are trying to ascertain the exact sequence of events and reasons for the incident."

Here's the answer to the first part of the puzzle:

"..... a witness saw the man sitting alone rambling incoherently in a stressed out state. Shortly after he poured the gasoline over his head and set fire to himself using matches."

For the answer to the second part, a little bit of police work needs to be done; nobody hold their breath for the result, it'll be a long time coming.

Its a pity Thailand dont have agencies like Beyond Blue to help people like this. Be money problems wife caught in bed with another guy(Quiet Common here) or they told him he had a job and must report Monday morning. Who knows I was burnt years ago and i tell you it bloody hurts. Given the medical conditions here his chances of survival are not good

Wow, if I tried self-immolation every time I was stressed out I'd be a charcoal about now.
