Facing eviction, disabled mother appeals for help

By The Nation

A partially paralysed mother of two in Pathum Thani has appealed for financial aid because she is unable to pay the mortgage on her house and the bank is about to seize it.

Watananisa Limworaphan, 44, said a stroke in 2014 left her paralysed along the right side and unable to earn an income.

She said her husband long ago abandoned the family, leaving her to take care of 12- and 13-year-old daughters.

She lives in the Asa housing estate in Tambon Bang Khuwat, Muang Pathum Thani, on Bt2,000 a month donated by a prayer group of which she and her late mother were members.

Watananisa also receives Bt800 a month as a disabled allowance and a nearby temple occasionally provides meals for her daughters.

Her mother, who supported the family selling sweets she made, died of cancer in 2015.

Watananisa said she was worried about her daughters’ schooling. She fears the family will have nowhere to live if the bank seizes the house.

In a civilised society a bank would not, or even could not, evict a paralyzed or partially paralyzed lady with siblings to support.

Surely there are laws in place to prevent this, or am I being delusional  in my old age.
