I'm after some quick advice on getting the Thai wife to Australia with a view to permanent residency.  I'm an Aussie citizen.

My situation is I am moving back to Australia with my Thai wife and 3 dual citizen kids (11,7 and 2 months).  My wife has visited Oz twice before on a tourist visa without any issues. I am retired and have my own retirement income stream.  Would it be best that I take her on a tourist visa and then apply for a permanent visa when I am there?  I would hope to get a 12 month tourist visa if this was the case.   Any advice greatly appreciated.

If your wife's tourist visa has 8503 (No Further Stay) condition, she will be unable to apply for another visa in Australia

unless she get's 8503 waived, which is pretty hard.

From what I can see, you've pretty much got 2 options.

Apply for a tourist visa (don't mention wanting to apply for PR) and if she get's it without 8503 condition,

you can apply from Oz.

Or you can just apply for a spouse visa in Thailand and you can then apply for a tourist visa whilst you're waiting.

Good luck.

Can anyone else offer any further helpful advice?

Will27 has covered your options. Bit of extra detail, had a Thai friend who recently received a 12 month tourist 601 visa, but had to depart / return every three months, without no further stay restriction.
