garethsekai Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Hi Seniors, Hope someone can provide some clarity to this question, been looking around for answers: I have a non O multiple entry visa (thai spouse). Can I apply for the Temp 1 year thai driving license within the first 60 days of entering thailand or it can only be done after the first 60 days? Or does it even make a difference? Also, I have a singapore driving license, do I still need the International driving permit to obtain the thai driving license? Thank you!
garethsekai Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Can I also ask on obtaining the residency certificate - not sure what other use is this certificate for other than getting the driver's license? Here are the documents I got off the internet: 1. Two (2) Color Photos 1.5 in x 2.36 in (4 cm x 6 cm)2. Copy of Passport (1st Page; VISA Page; TM6). Bring your original Passport also.3. Proof of Residence (Rental Contract or Yellow Residency Book or Letter from your Landlord) (I been living in my own house under my wife's blue book, so do I then bring the blue book instead?)
stevenl Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Temp license is 2 years now, you can apply anytime.
garethsekai Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Thank you stevenl. Can someone please share what are the documents in lieu of Proof of Residence (Rental Contract or Yellow Residency Book or Letter from your Landlord) (I been living in my own house under my wife's blue book, so do I then bring the blue book instead?)

Contact your local Land Transport office and ask them what they require. Every office is different. I live up north and no photos were required. They take the photos themselves. This was in 2012.

You should have a TM30 form (address report) in your passport.

You need the certificate from immigration which you can get by showing your wife and her blue book, unless you have a work permit or yellow book.

My experience is that they all differ depending on where you go and who you talk to son the day. If they say no then go to a different counter and they will likely say yes.
KhunBENQ Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 No need to wait. Entered in March 2011, had temporary license (for one year at that time) in same month. No photos required. They take your picture before printing. From three occasions for me and some from a mate in Pattaya. The difference between the offices is mainly what they accept as proof of residence. Just noticed that no one jumped on this question which is about most significant. And I must admit that I also can't contribute. You might succeed due to the fact that Singapore is an ASEAN country and the driving license also shows English language(does it?).
Anthony Loh Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 You can obtain the house address certificate in Singapore embassy in Bangkok or your local immigration office, just tell them that you want to apply for Thai driving license. You can consider to convert your Singapore driving license to Thai driving license, is best to check with the your local Transportation office for more information. Dont forget to get the TM30 done in your local immigration with your wife to avoid future problems.

Do your name written in your wife blue house book? If yes, sure you can use that to apply but I don’t think so or if only you are holding a yellow house book with your name show written in it.

So that will not work unless the particular LTO is very unusual in there proof allowed.
ThaiWai Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 If you use the IDP in Phuket you are in and out in 15 minutes. If not you have to sacrifice one limb and an organ of your choice.
Blue Muton Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 You'll probably also need a certificate / letter from a local doctor or hospital.
garethsekai Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 thank you everybody for your kind replies! To reaffirm my understanding, in lieu of the blue book I have to get the TM30 filled out and bring my wife/blue book to immigration counter.

No, you need to get a letter confirming your address from the Immigration Police.
garethsekai Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 hi Blue Muton, thank you for sharing that. Sorry if this question have been asked before. I am confused as to the letter you mentioned from the Immigration Police, isn't that the same document as TM30?
