BURIRAM: -- Days of torrential rain combined with forest runoffs caused flooding Buriram's Lahan Sai district on Tuesday.

Thirty homes and hundreds of rai of ricefields and farmlands in three tambons - Tambon Lahan Sai, Samrong Mai and Khok Wan - were inundated, according to Samrong Mai mayor Thanawuth Srikimkaew.

Several roads, including a 200-metre-long section of Khok Ta Doung-Santisuk raod in Samrong Mai, were submerged in up to 50cm-deep water.

Local officials were dispatched to provide urgent help and survey the damage to report to the province, he said.

He expected everything to return to normal to normal in 1-2 days provided there was no more rainfall. If not, officials would prepare a fast flood-draining plan and prepare for possible evacuation of at-risk residents.

Darn, once a house is built it is very hard to raise it the metre that it should have been during

the start of the lot construction. I guess that is why if I were to build a house in most places of the

pancake flat country, I would build the first floor as a Garage storage and the rest of the house

above that floor.  Good Luck to all you home owners.

Geezer

Geezer

As it has traditionally been done since decades in Isaan.

House on stilts.

Nowadays there is a trend to rebuild the ground floor for living
