A swath of Mae Mo municipality in Lampang has been declared a disaster zone after days of heavy rain opened wide cracks in the earth, with erosion threatening eight homes.

With subsidence continuing, the area is off limits to unauthorised visitors.

Mayor Chucheep Boonnak said Tuesday’s declaration followed an inspection of the area by Songpol Sawattham, governor of the northern province, and officials of Mineral Resources Office 1.

The experts believe the subsidence and rifts in the terrain might stem from layers of soil separating after becoming super-saturated.

The affected area is within an eight-rai (1.3-hectare) radius on a slope near a creek in Ban Huai King (Moo 6).

Twenty-two tenants of eight affected homes, all employees of the Mae Mo power plant, have been evacuated.

Songpol said officials would continue monitoring the situation around the clock. He’s ordered a full survey of the damage and assistance to be provided to people in need.

Mineral Resources officials led by office director Denchok Manjai planned to carry out a detailed inspection later on Tuesday to determine the cause.

Will the good General take responsibility for the flooding disaster throughout the country. Once he accepts responsibility he can then  summons the " OFFICIALS" who have failed miserably in their duties  and carry out an audit as to what has happened to all the money budgeted for flood mitigation and take some proactive measures.

Nope. They have already  guaranteed themselves immunity from anything they do therefore they are 100% irresponsible.

What a ‘disastrous’ headline and declaration given the true disasters, both political/military/religious and climactic, at this moment in time, going on around the world!
