The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has sought help from people living around dams and reservoirs in the Northeast to keep a close watch on them in case some of them may burst or leak due to increasing water pressure.

 

RID chief Somkiart Prachumwong disclosed Thursday (Oct 19) that more than 200 dams and reservoirs in the Northeast are now full or almost full and, if there are more heavy rains, some of them may not be able to withstand water pressure and may burst or leak.

 

Two reservoirs–Ban Sawang Niyom in Surin and Nong Sano inside the Kasetsart University’s Lop Buri campus–broke in the past two days due to excessive water.
