An Indian thief preying on passengers told a sob story after he was caught stealing from an Egyptian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

CCTV was vital in the apprehension of 23 year old Mahesh Vajinathi Mote who was rounded up in a hotel in Silom.

The footage showed him waiting for his opportunity to strike near a charging station in departures in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim fell asleep and Mote targeted his valuables stealing cash from a wallet before returning it to a bag on the trolley.

He then was traced to Silom after taking a public taxi from the rank.

He denied it at first but soon changed his tune when confronted with the CCTV evidence. Then came the tears - he said his passport had run out in early September and he had no work and needed money for his hotel.

Police charged him with theft from the airport at night describing him as a person on overstay who was also wanted for crimes in his own country.

They called him an opportunistic thief and warned passengers at the airport to look out for their belongings at all times.

In his room the cops found the clothing used in commission of the crime along with US1,600, 1,560 dirhams and 12,500 baht making a total of 100,000 baht value.

Khao San Muang Prakarn said on their website that the whole police arrest operation was accomplished in under 24 hours.

He effectively solved his problem with cost for living a couple of years to come.

Credit where credit is due. If this had happened in any major western airport, the coppers would have said, yea, what do you want from us?

Thai  police deserve a job well done pat on the back.

Thailand is over run with parasite opportunist criminals praying

on the unsuspecting...and as many as you will arrest and deport

Give this bum jail tme, then toss him in the ocean to swim his way home.
