Police in Bangkok have arrested a taxi driver after he threatened a Lebanese tourist and stole his headphones.

The tourist - who was not named - was travelling from Don Meung airport to Suvarnabhumi and was approached outside the northern Bangkok airport.

A fee of 1,000 baht was agreed. A man called Wacharit Janyu drove the taxi and Sunthorn went along for the ride.

On the way Sunthorn said as the tourist was in a rush he should pay more and the fee was hiked to 1,400 baht. In addition Sunthorn started threatening the tourist to give him his property.

The scared tourist jumped out of the still moving cab as it approached Suvarabhumi departures and ran to get police help. Sunthorn chased him and grabbed his headphones, ran back to the taxi and fled with Wacharit.

Sunthorn was later arrested and faces a charge of theft.

A warrant will be issued for the arrest of his accomplice who returned the taxi to the rental company and got away before cops could apprehend him, reported Sanook.

I read this post before I saw who the poster was, thinking it was sarcastically amusing. Then I saw 'steven100' posted it. OMG!!!

Connection from ..... Pattaya???  usually costs a little more than 1000 anyway...  really, if you look at the gas prices as you go along, and if you know about driving cars, you usually get it that they aren't making much money... just give them a fair go and be done with it!

How do you get Pattaya out of " ...was travelling from Don Meung airport to Suvarnabhumi " ?

One down, so many more to go.....

Throw the cheats in jail and make sure they never get their hands on a taxi again....such incidents, amongst others, tarnish the image of Thailand.

I figured there'd be some tv.com posters taking this opportunity to bash good taxi drivers who do actually return customers' money. You must hate those stories.

1000 baht is ridiculously high. I one time went to the wrong airport. And in sure Asoke to Suvarnabhumi then Don mueng was less than 500 baht

That's why I pay for the landside limos at DMK and BKK.  Just not worth the aggravation.  800 baht from DMK to Lower Suk.

What hassle do you get from the identified drivers, whose name is on the booking ticket, in the official taxi queue?  50 baht extra and half the price of the "limos" (limo, that's a joke in itself).

Doesn't matter if the passenger agreed to it which is what happened in this case.
