Families of five dead victims of drunk driving and no-drinking network of Trang province on Monday filed a complaint with the Office of Attorney-General demanding a probe into the conduct of Trang public prosecutor over his handling of the drunk driving case.

Led by Mr Sayant Intharapak, former deputy governor of Trang and president of Risks Control Association of the South, the group of about 30 men and women questioned the conduct of the prosecutor in charge of the drunk driving case in which one police officer and four rescue workers were killed by an alleged drunk driver.

The alleged drunk driver was sentenced by the Trang provincial court to 4 years imprisonment and a fine of 3,400 baht. And the prosecutor in question did not appeal against the verdict until the statute of limitations of the case has expired without informing the families of the dead victims of their right of appeal.

Wow. 4 yrs. and around $US100 fine for killing 5 under the influence of alcohol. Some serious money into pockets.

Prosecutor in charge of the drunk driving case + a shit load of Baht = "The Thai way of Corruption"

I'm not exactly naive, yet I still wonder how a people can justify such profound pride in self and culture knowing that the foundation upon which their pride rests is corrupt.

Or maybe, just maybe, the law doesn't offer, in this case, the possibility for appeal?

seems to be a much harsher sentence than most get here for the same offense.

" And the prosecutor in question did not appeal against the verdict until the statute of limitations of the case has expired without informing the families of the dead victims of their right of appeal. "

Certainly sounds like the family think it does.

"the defendant had never shown any remorse and offered an apology to any of the dead victims"

In-cre-di-ble!...After killing five people while drug driving.

And one was actually a police officer  So much for a caring service where even the police are not protected  by the system and even fellow police officers will not look after their own  ( refer to the Red Bull Killer case )

At least he got something, remember little madam Na Ayyuthya killed 11,and got community service, which she appealed,i don't no the outcome, but if you have just killed 11 people, one would think most humans would show some contrition, not her she pulled her hair and stamped her feet and demanded Daddy did something, after all they were only students.
