Leading anti human trafficking activist Weerawan "Boom" Mosby joined 100 cops and officials in a PR exercise in the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai last night.

The campaign was designed to raise public awareness of the issues of human trafficking especially the problem of under 18 year old women entering the sex trade.

Weerawan Mosby has been honored in the United States for her work in the field.

Yesterday evening anti human trafficking cops led by Kornchai Khlaikleung handed out leaflets to the public and tourists in the popular nighttime attraction.

Thailand wants to improve its record in the area of human trafficking and ministerial level edicts have come from on high to effect change and raise the country's international standing.

Placards (in Thai) proclaiming "War against Human Trafficking" were carried as a "Jolly Cop" cartoon figure joined in the campaign.

Thai Rath had plenty of pictures of Kornchai and what appeared to be a translator but Weerawan was not photographed lerding the way.

Is it really so widespread and such a big issue, or are the award winning investigators making false claims in order to keep themselves in jobs?

I often hear about foreign reports stating that there are 100s of thousands of underage trafficked sex workers, but, never see any arrests or anything .

We can't expect too many arrests if the people who are supposed to catch the traffickers are also the people who are organising the trafficking - or are being paid to turn a blind eye.

It would be great to have some real investigative journalism here - but it would be an extremely dangerous occupation.
