"We can't stop them" says park chief as hordes of tourists ignore Krabi weather warnings

Thai Rath reported that large numbers of Thai and foreign tourists were flocking to Krabi beaches despite bad weather warnings.

As storm clouds loomed overhead the island of Phi Phi in particular was as busy as ever.

"We can't stop them," said local national park chief Woraphot Lormlim. "We are open and the tourists can come if they wish".

But he said that his staff were stationed throughout the area to assist in the event of problems and advise tourists as necessary.

Can't stop them? Just string a net and put in a dozen great whites...

Meteorological Department issues a warning for small boats,

National Park raises red flags on beaches when wind and waves picking up.

Harbor Department is busy at the office

and the tour operator brings the customers out on the sea just because:

We need money, lots of money. But we care our customers, we have seasick pills on board.

And to avoid problems, we named all our boats: BIG, like Big longtail boat and Big speedboat.

And just why would you stop them if they have all the necessary information to make an adult decision? If you look up and see black all around you, why would you expect sunny skies just over the horizon? Load then up, its Gods way of stupid control and population control. The Philippines regularly overfill ferries in rainy season with the expected results and nothing stops them, why should anyone else be different?

What a beautiful spot. Just remove the Chinese and the boats. Perfect.

could stay could she not.

Red Flag warning mean Nothing to stupid people. When one of them get drowned,  they

get mad that they were not warned clearly enough. Ignorance can be cured but not

stupidity.

Geezer

Same excuse that the traffic police use, Cant stop them! so why even try!

The problem here is a farang tourist does not ypically check for small craft warnings before going out on a charter. They trust their Captain and crew. Sadly these captains are interested in greed and profits and not the safety of their passengers.

plus the majority of farang have no boat handling or open sea experience so they don't know that comditions at sea are much worse than what they see standing on the dock.

This report is very troubling because it portends the real likelihood of drownings,

The Park officials could very easily close down the Park if they so chose by simply declaring no further boat landings until red flag weather has passed.

Hopefully the crews are insisting PFDs are worn by all passengers upon stepping aboard.
