CityNews – “Published on October, Lonely Planet’s The Place To Be suggests where to go in search of experiencing a particular emotion. Whether it’s joy or serenity, awe or enlightenment, each chapter in this unique book explores a single feeling, with 20 travel destinations and experiences for each emotion and state of mind. Places range from wild and natural spaces, to modern and ancient cities, with Lonely Planet’s expert travel writers explaining when to go and how to get there, and the best routes to discovering these feelings,” Lonely Planet’s media release revealed.

“Drawing on science, art and literature for the key to unlocking each emotion, this book is a reminder of how powerful new places can be for mental and physical wellbeing, and inspire readers to think about their next journey in a whole new light,” Lonely Planet continued.

Lonely Planet has gone loony tunes - they are a complete waste of time.

They recently rated Detroit USA and Canberra Australia as 2 of the top 3 Cities in the World to visit :cheesy:

No no, let's be fair.  What is there to beat the pleasant aroma of diesel exhaust from a thousand song thaews?  or taking a leisurely swim in the fresh waters of the moat ?

Or being stuck in a traffic jam at the intersection of Niman and Huay Kaew?  or being shat upon by a billion starlings at dusk on one's romantic way to the Ram Hospital to check out that little twinge that bothers one? or the majestic giant tv screen on the eastern wall of Maya blasting open the night sky?

Oh, and how could I omit the comforting sound of jets taking off at 1 am, ferrying their passengers back to China and Korea?

No, Lonely Planet have it just about right...

The Planet hasn't been lonely for a long time now...

Having moved to Chiang Mai from the Detroit area, I had to check out the Lonely Planet website to see what they said about visiting Detroit.  I had to admit, they are on-the-mark about it being an interesting place to visit for a week or so.  Remember, Lonely Planet's mission isn't to help people locate a place for relocation, but rather find an interesting travel destination.

We always liked having visitors because we'd take them to the funky parts of town that we never visited on our own to do stupid stuff like an auto plant tour or an afternoon at the Henry Ford museum.  You never do these things when you live in a place, but visitors like them.

Detroit has auto plant tours; Chiang Mai has elephant camps.  As a resident I don't engage in either activity.

Brace for another hippie invasion, lol.

Lonely Planet rose above hippies long long ago.
