Hi all, can anyone tell me if there are banks (especially Bangkok bank) within walking distance of the Nana Hotel on 4 Nana Tai, Sukhumvit Road to go in and do a sizable currency exchange?

Thanks,

Mike

Bangkok Bank has a main branch on Sukhumvit Road between Soi 8 & 10 (5 minute walk from Nana). Enter the bank and go up to the first floor via the stairs, go through the glass doors and turn right, where you will find the currency exchange counter.

Regards Bill.

Dont go to the Banks go to the Chinese money changers Near Asok,

Thanks.  What/where are the Chinese money changers, are they the walk-up money exchange booths?

If it is sizable the bigger money changers might give you a little better rate that can add up on a larger amount. I would check the rates.  http://www.vasuexchange.com/index.php

Thanks for the reply.  I checked vasuexchange and the rates are better than the bank.  Do vasuexchange sites have an office you go into to do the exchange or are you standing on the street at a window?

Thanks for the reply.  What exactly are the bigger money changers and where are they in relation to Nana hotel?

On the corner of Soi 7/1 underneath the BTS.  Closes at 5pm, not open Sundays.

Also try Superrich on the 1st level of Nana BTS, they'll be open later.

It is like a regular bank in a building and close to you. Here is a picture and map. https://get4x.com/en/thailand/bangkok/sukhumvit/vasu-money-exchange-co-ltd

This is the best option.

Banks give terrible rates,  go to one of the small money changers, there are several on Sukhumvit between Nana and Asok. Compare rates though, some are consistently much better than others.

Banks' rates are hardly "terrible".

1000 HKD changed at Vasu now gets B4,170.

1000 HKD changed at Bangkok Bank gets B4,070.

I suppose it depends on what B100 means to you and how much it costs to get to Vasu. If it costs more than B100 to get there, and home again, then Bangkok Bank's rate is the best overall.  Terrible.

so you are losing 100 baht on this small transaction....thats a starbucks coffee or tea and its an unnecessary loss of 2.5%, for me that makes using the bank totally irrational.

You're right, of course, as long as the cost of getting to the exchange with the better rate costs you nothing.  You're lucky but for many people that isn't the case and in their case using anything but the most convenient facility would be totally irrational.

They have shops,  usualy they give you at least one baht more than the banks,  Not a lot but if you are changing a large amount it counts.

I was responding to your comment that was not specifically about proximity to Nana but specifically just about the comparison between one rate and another...how about that?

The Super Rich locations off the skytrain, etc. do not give their best rates.

But, their headquarters main office off Ratchadamri across from Central World has better rates then the other locations.

I'm aware of that but do you really think that the difference in SuperRich's own rates amounts to anything worth going out of your way for?

I know what you are saying.  For smaller amounts, No.
