Brilliant work this year folks to confuse the Chiang Mai block vote. The Chiang Mai block have shown over the years to be under some sort of duress (something to do with an ominously named Mr. Bitey) helplessly granting Nancy as many votes as she wishes. May this be the first step in liberating those poor souls from her clutches.

And in keeping with the tradition of previous years when we've reached that stage in the proceedings where things are sufficiently ballsed up that calls for a complete rerun are being overheard in the corridors, lest the competition turns into a total farce.... there is no bloody rerun.

Get over yourself.

Do something useful and send a PM to Jingthing and tell him his paltry 1 vote has been reinstated. If only to prevent his hyperventilating and histrionics, we don't need him coming back only to noisily and repeatedly claim he wasn't told.

Try hard, develop a sense of humour!

Yep, changing the rules whenever the required result was in doubt certainly seems to have worked.

Official statement regarding changed situation --

I was looking for a solution to the outrage of the over 30 votes for Craigt3365 being thrown away and it not being possible to vote for a valid choice on this poll for ALL of those voters. That's a lot of votes in the context of this contest.

Moderation has solved this problem by PM contacting all of the Craigt3365 voters and giving them the chance to cast a new vote via PM  (to be added whenever).

I am totally satisfied with this solution.

Therefore, whoever wins this contest, whether it be JAG, Baboon, or really whoever, will not be an ASTERISKS winner but a REAL DEAL winner.

So may the best man (or car) win!

Goodbye again.

Naam's looking forward to giving back the pink garter and tiara .....

to be on the safe side i pawned the tiara in a Walking Street bar for 1½ bar fines (old warhorse) and a soft drink. Mama-San said if i don't come back she will use it as a belly button accessoire and offered to show me how it will look at her belly... which i [not so] politely declined.

Lastly, I have taken your comment on board, quite seriously, and Thanks for making me sit down and think about the whole thing and the reasons I am here.

I edit, to mention, that I largely post in the interests of honesty, the respect of the law, though largely not the people running that section, moving forward as a Nation and overall sanity.

Wonderful! Such an impressive statement, unprecedented in the annals of TV, deserves a bit of an appreciative response. I'm prepared to "like" your posts in the future though you may lose your previous audience now.

However, the point I tried to make earlier was that when I see the news, I will respond with the comment that I believe to be appropriate to the event. Sometimes my comment will be on the money and liked. Sometimes I will be off the mark and get ripped. Sometimes I will be humorous, sometimes scathing. No one gets it right all the time, but it is a forum for people to post their differing views. My post will be my view, regardless of whether it please the "peanut gallery" as you describe them, who also hold certain views, much of which has been gained as a result of the experience of living here some time.

I'm ready to believe that.

I don't know what your honest view of the country is. I know what I see week in, week out. Sure, there is stupidity all over the world, daily. Very few will argue that Thailand has less than its fair share of that. I have many more Thai friends than farang, and I love them very much. Many of them agree with my observations in many areas, some don't in other areas.

Thailand has its share. But being fair means that you don't generalize to all Thais, or to all members of a particular segment of Thais, all the time. You don't pre-judge everything, as with the Tunnel. There was never any evidence of its being a "bodge job" as you repeated at various times. There was never any evidence or any reason to believe it would flood; in fact, the evidence was that flooding would be highly unlikely, as posters pointed out. It was a few months late, but big projects are also late in most every country (some extremes could be cited). And besides, different cultures have different senses of time anyway: How Different Cultures Understand Time. Simliarly w/ contracts; Western businesses people have long been confounded by Japanese flexibility after a contract has been signed, for example. And so w/ Thailand, Eastern culture far less advanced than Japan. So how come all the righteous indignation?

Now I see this all the time, not just w/ the tunnel. Worker hits a water pipe and it's characterized as "ONLY in Thailand." And then go to absurd lengths to argue that it is (by changing the topic). Or the CCTV cameras don't work and it's "they were designed not to work" for corruption purposes. Nonsense again. No need to multiply examples. All new projects don't deserve the immediate chorus of sneering about Thais. In the end, most of those sneers will turn out to have been bigoted foolishness.

It always amazes me how members here can have Thai wives & Thai friends--and live here voluntarily--yet enjoy bashing Thailand all the time so very much. Yet recently the thought occurred to me that many of our bigots don't actually know they're bigots. It's unconscious. That was when a poster I like and respect affirmed he's not a bigot but nonetheless insisted, despite the absurdity, on an unfair generalization. I mean, the evidence (GIYF) was perfectly clear on the point. If he'd confined himself to criticising the Thais involved, then fine; I agreed.

At the same time, though, our bigots greatly resent any Thai stereotyping of farangs and making generalizations about them. We have a large group of professional victims here.

Part of the problem may be of growing up in a farang country as part of the majority there. Black people in white Western countries have long complained against unconscious racism. They were long not taken seriously by the majority but then a lot of data emerged to show that they really do have a point. And based on my own personal experience with minorities and a bit of training, I have no doubt it's been true. Personally, I think this is something to fight against, without needing to go overboard.

Two U-turns make a circle, as in, keep going round in.

The decision is mind blowing. As difficult as finding a bar-girl telling the truth. Well perhaps not that hard. My thoughts on this momentus climax to POTY 2017.

11 Darksidedog; always first on topic.

09 Colinneil; has achieved a lot in the last 12 months.

07 Transam; pic of him a while back with his wife.

03 JAG; Thought capital letters were banned!

06 Baboon; looked at my profile a while back.

I'm not going to guess like other posters; far too important. I've also looked at the avatars. What I have noticed though, is that 4 of the remaining posters have an odd number of letters in their names. Baboon has 6. And I've always like double letters in a name; as in need or room. Just noticed colinneil. So we'll not attach too much importance to that then.

Well first choices evenstevens and craig are no longer with us so I'm going for Baboon. Yea!!!! Baboon for the POTY cup/trophy/money/fame free TVForum T-shirt.

Baboon spelled backwards starts with Noob.  Just thought I'd point that out FWIW.

I am enlightened. I try not to use the abbreviations too much as there are people out there who are not as clued up as they should be.

Your last sentence is great.  Most foreigners here in Thailand don't represent the ones that post a lot here on TVF. Getting out everyday helps me realize that.
