Frost bitten leaves on Doi Inthanon in 2015

CityNews – A temperature of -2 degrees Celsius (28 Fahrenheit) has been recorded on Doi Inthanon last night, which has made headlines across the nation as the cold spell grips north, northeastern and central Thailand.

The Meteorological Department recorded the temperature last night, December 19. The Doi Inthanon National Park often gets cold during winter, and hundreds of locals and tourists flock to see the morning frost before it thaws.

Tourists flock to see the morning frost before it thaws ? One could recommend some fine places in Europe with 24/7 frosting that won't thaw !!

Human nature, really really!!

Maybe it's "really really" easier for a Thai tourist to visit Doi Inthanon than Europe?

Obviously, reference was to the foreign tourists assuming that were a few.

The vast majority of the horrific crowds that drive up at 4am from Park HQ to the viewpoint is composed of Thais. There are some chinese too, and perhaps a few farangs, but that is because of the sunrise, I don't think the chinese would care for zero temperatures.

"Locals and tourists": Tourists from Bangkok? I've met a few, these probably seeking to cool off.

I suppose for a western (non-tropical) tourist, there'd be nothing new.

I found this 'Coldest temperature recorded on Doi Inthanon

BANGKOK, 21 December 2014 (NNT1) - The Doi Inthanon mountain feels the coldest temperature of the year at -1C. As many as 5,000 people went up there on Saturday to enjoy the chilly weather.

So presumably -2o is a record. Here's looking forward to snow as well in the coming years...providing there is precipitation conditions as well, Ha!
