Apply re-entry permit at DMK for future land exit/entry?

Featured Replies

Maybe an oddball question, but I'm wondering if can apply for a re-entry permit at Don Meuang -- not for a flight out of the country that day, but for exit to Myanmar by land and re-entry by land a few days later. I have a 60 day tourist visa and have decided I want to make a short trip out of the country and back without killing the 60 days I now have.

On Thursday I'll be at DMK for a flight to Chiang Mai, and would be doing a short overland trip to Myanmar the following week. I plan to stay here in Thailand until about Feb 15 so if I can't get a re-entry permit, I think I'd have to do an extra trip out and fly back in to get 30 days, which would be pretty inconvenient for me and might not even give me enough time.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

The re-entry can be bought at the immigration check point for international flights, you will not pass through there.

You will have to go to immigration in BKK or CNX.

Thanks for your quick reply. BKK immigration would be difficult for me before leaving on Thursday, but are you saying I can go to an immigration office in Chiang Mai city for a re-entry permit, in advance of leaving by land? If so, that would work for me.

Also, when I apply, do  I need to specify the dates I'll be leaving and returning? My schedule's a little up in the air now, so hopefully the dates can be left open?

Thanks again.

If you are in Thailand on an extension of your permission to stay, usually only the office that issued the extension will give you a re-entry permit. Getting one at an airport as you depart from the country is an exception to that general rule.

No you can't. You'll need to get one from an immigration office or at the border crossing (if available).

To follow up, I visited CM immigration today and the process was amazingly easy and friendly. They couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. Done deal! Thanks again for the info.

Didn't know that you can get re-entry permits at some border crossings. Does anyone know if Had Lek is one of them?

Not as far as I know.

Only a few large crossings have re-entry permit desks such as as Nong Khai and Poi Pet.

Could also be interesting - thanks!
