The relatives of a man who was shot dead while driving past a road checkpoint in Mae Suai district of Chiang Rai province on Tuesday night (Jan 2) has sought justice from the police and an investigation into the mysterious shot.

Sirirat Rabiang, the girlfriend of the dead victim, Mr Sornchai Sathitrong, 35, told the media that she was sitting next to Sornchai who was driving on their way from Ban Huey Nam Khun, Mae Suai district, to Chiang Mai on Tuesday night.

She said that they drove past a road checkpoint at about 8.30 pm and Sornchai did not stop the car for a check because authorities manning the checkpoint did not tell them to stop.

But as the car was about 10 metres from the checkpoinbt, she said she heard a thud of what appeared to be a gunshot and then she saw Sornchai’s head bend backward and the car engine accelerated before the car smashed into a roadside power pole.

Sad news and RIP to the victim.

It would obviously be a bit premature to suggest that somebody did not read the instructions booklet of the new SIG sidearm purchased by the authorities.

Hopefully, the family and the poor victim will get justice and the guilty will be prosecuted ?
