Hi,

I am Alex and living in Thailand.

:)

go ahead and mention some things about yourself, Alex. How'd you get to Thailand, What sorts of music do you like?

I know he has disdain for corporate cowboys and loves black women. Good bet he doesn't come from New York then.

Oh, c'mon BB, we all know he was abducted by aliens.

Hi all. I guess it's time I said howdy - I just passed the 1,000 mark and am waiting for my set of steak knives to arrive. I have just finished writing a book - actually I finished it many months ago but the process of getting it ready for printing is incredibly drawn-out. This includes redrafting based on the publisher's feedback, getting it reviewed, getting someone to write a 'foreword', cover design, and on and on. Now looking at release around the first week of December.

Right now though it's time for the annual trip back to Farangland (Australia) to take care of business ... family and otherwise ... and look about for a 'next step' in the career path, whether that be back in the paid workforce, or whatever. Am married to a lovely Thai lady with a 4 year old mini-CMB.

Cheers

CMB

Hello to all in Bedlamville. I’ve Been coming to Thailand since 2001 and about

to celebrate my second wedding anniversary to my Thai wife. I make jewelry here and

in other Asian countries and have been doing so for more than twenty years.

I just bought a house in Buriram and when I’m not working on it or making jewelry

I’m wondering around Asia with my camera taking photos. Thanks to all of you

who’ve made me laugh or scratch my head…….I promise to return the favor.

Welcome Pooklook, I certainly admire your pictures in the photography forum so I'm glad to see you here.

Where are you from? I have a passing interest in jewellery myself so I'd like to see some photos of your work in that field as well.

I'm from the USA and yes I think a future thread on the ups and downs

of doing business in Thailand will include some jewelry pics....

Welcome to our corridors

Thanks and profuse apologies Mossfinn. Kinda delayed response, huh? Note to self ... visit Bedlam more often. I'm actually back in Oz for the time being, but hope to get back to Thailand as soon as we can. You can check out some details of the book at the URL below ... the publisher's web site also lists the stores that stock the book in Thailand

Hello Bedlamites,

Im 36 from T.Wells, Kent, UK.

My wife is the third person I met on arrival in Chiang Mai, on my first day in Chiang Mai, on my first trip to Chiang Mai, on my first trip to Thailand.

(#1 tuk tuk driver at airport,

#2 female receptionist at the hotel I was taken to,

#3 female receptionist sitting next to her...wife!!)

I'm sure the books say DONT MARRY THE FIRST (or second) WOMAN YOU MEET IN THAILAND!

Been here nearly 4 years now, watching the step son grow up (now 7 yrs old), and a beer belly form! (now jogging for the first time in 15 years)

Gone rather native over here, what with the wife being with me 24/7.

Fell on hard times whilst here, a fraud in the UK, left me with next to nothing, so here I am still... wondering what to do! - returning penniless is not going to be much fun - so better I stay here, where penniless is the norm!

Ex daytrader - or should I say recovering daytrader.

Ex IT manager.

Ex paraglider - but want to buy paramotor! - but would have to sell the chopper!

I used to mainly go on holiday to Africa; Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania until coming here, so to me Thailand is rather like Disneyland in comparison - bloody great place!

Currently web developer and ingrish teacher (some shouty white guy who confiscates mobiles and BB guns for 40 minutes)

Wife runs our shop in a Thai marketplace during the evenings, used to go every evening also, hence going native to a degree.

errr...

Now just working on making some websites, not for the money, but to keep up-to-date should I have to return to the west for work...

Not interested in making websites that compete with Thai/farang websites btw... Im strictly for the science at the moment. Working on a bitch of a website project trying to analyse huge amounts of data, but stuck on the statistics of it all... just finished a concert pianists website in the UK. Used to work on financial websites making stock price charts/portfolio stuff etc...except that I'm not working!!!!!!! All I've done for the last 3 days is watch downloaded movies and read bloody Thai Visa!!!

I blame the Reds!

Howdy Y'all,

My first trip to Thailand was February 1985, coming out of the frozen north east PRC. Was smitten on that first trip, settled down with my now wife in 1991.

Worked in the oilfield exploration field (geophysical seismic surveys) for 29.8 years. Got laid off (retired) end of May 2009.

I apoligize for my moniker, when I joined there was an FM radio station in BKK, (probably still on today), FM 107, Metropolitan FM, used to have expat DJ's, played good music. Then they dumped all the expat DJ's and put young Thai DJ's on who played the most obnoxious, profane rap crap to ever come over the airwaves, hence: metisdead.

That's (some) of my story and I'm sticking with it.

Ol' AL

Welcome to Bedders, Met. You sure took your time chalking up yur 500 - but no doubt they are all quality, well thought-out posts (like mine). :)

Welcome Met to our corridors, trust in me, but keep your powder dry :)

welcome metisdead,

good to see you finally here. i even created a thread in your honour :)

take a seat & enjoy. :D

Hi everyone

I'm 37 and splitting my time between Samui and working in a hospital in the UK for the moment.

Spent most of the nineties drifting around India and Ibiza then moved to Trinidad for a while.

Decided 5 or 6 years ago to have a change and came over to Thailand. Met some folks on the plane and tagged along to Samui where I met a bunch of nutters and felt immediately at home. Been on and off the island ever since.

Recently invested in a bar...I know I know...but at least I haven't got married yet....no doubt that pleasure will come one day...no hurry though.

I'm getting itchy feet here in the UK so I might start working in OZ soon...need a fresh challenge from time to time I reckon

Anyways cheers and good to read a few of your stories. :)

Welcome to Bedlam. Looking forward to hearing some traveller's tales from you.

I know it is pathetic, but I only learned of the Bedlam forum when TV was updated and posts started appearing with other new content. There were only a few forums I visited and I mainly just went through life clicking "View New Content". Anyway, now I know it is here, I shall endeavour to pop by now and then to share in the wisdom of the world, or at least the bullsh*t of Bangkok.

Over to me, me, me, (chorus)

I am 47 years old and have lived in Thailand since I was a few months shy of 20. I had a job offer in Singapore and decided to travel via Thailand (it was cheaper that way). I finally got to Singapore in 2008, by which time the job offer was no longer open. I have been married for a long time, 23 years I believe (to the same woman too!!!!!). I had two children but the youngest decided to take a rain check on life just over 4 years ago, so now there is just my 21 year old son to cause me any bother. I have been working with the same international company for the past 18 or so years. Blah, blah, blah. :)

Oh and my former next door neighbor and school friend in the UK lives on Bedlam Lane, Arthington so there. :P

I only learned of the Bedlam forum when TV was updated and posts started appearing with other new content.

It's a good feature indeed.

Welcome

Hello Guys and Girls.

I am 50, born in Italy, living in Thailand with my small restaurant since 6 years.

I was travelling to India since my teens, i have always had a "thing" about Asia and its ancient culture.

I was a gardener for 20 years, so i love plants and trees.

Since my daughter and my son from my failed marriage were grown up, i decided to try to settle in Thailand, no regrets so far, probably saved me some money on Psychiatrists, but some sick buffalo ate it :)

It's a pleasure for me to read Thaivisa, i hope i can improve my English skills soon so to have some interesting discussion with you Folks.

Keep on the good work.

Regards,

Mau
