BMA to open bidding for contractor to partially demolish two Soi Ruamrudee buildings

By The Nation

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will soon open bidding for a contractor to partially demolish the illegally-built Aetas Bangkok Hotel and Aetas Condominium on Soi Ruamrudee, Governor Assavin Kwanmuang said on Tuesday.

Assavin said he expected that the contractor would be selected by the middle of March.

He said the terms of reference for the bid have been completed and the BMA is now inviting contractors to bid.

The Supreme Administrative Court ruled on October 30, 2014, that the partial demolition of the Aetas hotel and Aetas condominium was to take place within 60 days, after finding construction of the buildings violated the law. However, no demolition work has taken place since then.

Assavin said the BMA has allocated Bt199 million for the demolition and the two owners of the buildings, the Larp Prathan and Thaptimtorn companies, would be billed later.

The hotel has 24 floors and the condominium has 18 floors, both higher than the legal limit of 23-metres for buildings on a small soi with the width of no more than 10 metres.

The court ruling concluded that the width of Ruamrudee was less than 10 metres so the upper floors of the two buildings must be taken down.

"Assavin said the BMA has allocated Bt199 million for the demolition and the two owners of the buildings, the Larp Prathan and Thaptimtorn companies, would be billed later." why not make those

2 companies pay first, they are at fault for extending the buildings higher than what was allowed

I get the feeling they might have difficulty being reimbursed, once the job is done.

I think the building owners would be more than happy if a decision was made that the demolition would only proceed once they had made the payment. Cheque is in the post!

I see you can still make bookings for the hotel on Agoda. Imagine the shock of arriving in Bangkok on a late night flight only to find your 8.4/10 rated hotel is nothing more than a hole in the ground :whistling:

The BMA has 2 special tape measure for measuring Sois for this purpose.

The one they use in Sukhumvit Soi 4 costs 10,000.000 to take out of the sealed case

So the Supreme Administrative Court ruled that the partial demolition was supposed to occur by the end of 2014.

And then, 2015 passed, 2016 passed, 2017 passed, and we're now into 2018. And the BMA is just now going out for bid, which you can pretty well bet won't lead to anything actually occurring during 2018.

So three to four years after the fact, and nothing done to implement the court's final ruling. And people wonder why the BMA administration is widely considered worthless and useless.

They'll probably hire the same contractors to do the Aetas demolition that they hired to install the BTS line elevators, which still aren't completed or fully functional.

some bts elevators are disabled on purpose for who knows what reason, you will have to press the button for them to enable the elevator. My wife did that once we she was taking the stroller up and press the call button, not sure if all stations have call button, but the station she was at just happen to have it

This process has taken so long, they're now confidently taking bookings for 2019.
